I had the opportunity to visit Koko for a work dinner on a Thursday evening with a small group of four coworkers. Bottom-line verdict: It's fine to try once, especially if you're a group of vegetarians or have dietary restrictions and are willing to spend on a meal. With drinks and the small portions in mind, expect to spend around ₹2,500 per person for a full, sumptuous meal.
Finding Koko is easy once you get to the RMZ Nexity campus. Take Gate 6 to find parking; they offer valet parking for cars.
You MUST make reservations no matter what time or day you go. Otherwise, expect at least a 15 to 20-minute wait. So, book a table via Swiggy Dineout or Zomato Gold.
Upon entering, you'll be struck by the incredibly exquisite ambiance and decor of the place. It's eye-popping and offers a spacious environment with supremely tall ceilings. The wait staff are super professional and well-trained.
We got a high chair and table, which was definitely too small for the four of us. There was no space for the dishes to be placed after we were served, so the staff had to serve everything at once and remove the empty dishes promptly.
I definitely recommend this place for groups with dietary restrictions, especially those preferring a Jain menu, gluten-free, or vegan options. They offer an impressive level of customization for most dishes.
The dishes are served with impressive speed. I really loved some of the vegetarian dishes like the creamy broccoli, edamame money bag, Koko special avocado sushi, and one non-veg maki sushi (regular rice). Unfortunately, while the meats were well-cooked, the sauces were not to our taste. We couldn't believe we didn't enjoy the chicken or prawn dishes we ordered. The chef seemed to be experimenting, as the kung pao prawns didn't taste like they should, and the flagship tempura avocado was bland and flavorless.
I can't recommend Koko for non-veg lovers, but I think it might work for those with vegan, Jain, or gluten-free diets. It's very expensive (₹2,000 per person minimum), and for the portion sizes, it's a hard sell. However, I definitely appreciate the professional and prompt staff as well as...
Read moreKoko joins a long line of disappointments which seems to be the norm with every new eatery these days.
I entered the restaurant and encountered 3 employees, two hostesses and a male dressed in a suit who promptly walked away inside while both the hostesses were busy on the phone and refused to even acknowledge my presence. After patiently waiting a few minutes, realising it's a waste of time to bother with the hostesses, I went inside and requested the gentleman who walked away on me earlier, to be seated.
One of the hostesses later came to my table to ask for my name and number, an annoying practice which restaurants really need to stop. I obviously gave a fake number.
After the initial disappointment, I had hoped the restaurant would redeem itself when a cheerful waitress waited on me and took my order. But little did I know it was only going to be a downhill experience then on.
Food was a mixed bag. Some items are really good whereas some items shouldn't even be on the menu. The Hot and Sour soup was great. The morrel and truffle dim sum was rubbish and so was the mushroom puff. A dim sum is supposed to have a firm skin which can be easily grasped by chopsticks. This dim sum's skin was all mushy and sticky. And it lacked any real flavour. The same was the case with the mushroom puff, flavour-wise. The Thai lotus stem was just okay.
Service was downright horrendous. Ordered a mango kombucha but was served an orange kombucha. The appetizers and small plates came out quickly one after another but my waiter disappeared and forgot about my main course. After waiting patiently at length, I called another waiter to let him know about the inordinate delay in bringing out my main and told him to cancel it if it hasn't been prepared yet. He came back and said they have started preparing it and it will be brought out in 5 minutes. Despite categorically telling him to cancel it, they still brought the order to the table, which I refused.
Koko only gets a second star due to the fact that they have small portions which are suitable for single diners. Any restaurant menu which caters to single diners deserves a...
