TL;dr: Your experience may depend on the day of the week you visit this place. Dosa and uttapam was okay, idli and wadai were alright, sheera was unique in itself.
Banana leaf has been on my visit list from a very long time. It is located inside the Malhar Mega Mall, and has a very minimalistic ambiance in itself. You're greeted with a very Kannad vibe once you enter through the main door, and the tables and chairs are reminiscent of my time in Bengaluru.
The service was a bit on the slower side, and honestly, was such an off-putting thing for me and my friend. Once the food arrived, hands down, this was the most underwhelming dosa I've had in Indore. Inspired by the dosas served in Bengaluru, fluffy from inside, crispy from outside, this was nothing like it LOL. Dosa came along with a side of sambhar (which was really low in quantity, and you had to request again and again for it, combined with the slow service, it kinda bugged me) and 2 chutneys.
The idlis were disappointing honestly, we ordered Thatte idli, which was a bit undercooked, and left a sour taste in my mouth. Wadai were pretty small in serving size, uttapam was loaded with oil for some reason. Pineapple sheera was not the sweetest, and had little hints of pineapple in it.
Overall, I wouldn't really recommend. My first experience wasn't the greatest, and left a lot to be desired. I'd like to visit again and change this review, if my experience changes anytime, anyday.
Thanks...
Read moreMy experience with Banana leaf wasn't good at all it may sound harsh but it's true.
It's a good restaurant in terms of verity in south Indian food you will be able to eat those south Indian dishes which you never heard before but wait, it doesn't mean they taste good or this place create an amazing dining experience I think they serve average quality food with a mindset of luxury the items are overpriced with respect to the quality and taste.
The staff and service in the worst part staff forgot the order sometimes, you have to repeat your items 2-3 times then only they will bring it to your plate, the expression on the staff members face is like they don't want you to eat and if you are asking to refill your plate they serve you with a look that they have to pay money for it.
The taste of food is average, many people say it's authentic south Indian food but, I doubt. I like that they serve you on an actual banana leaf. The overall ambience is good the location of the place is perfect. You can go here with your friends and family especially kids.
In the end, if you want to just try different new types of south Indian dishes you can go here otherwise I would not...
Read moreFood is very good, but the service and staff is just very laidback. Staff seems to be in la-la land all the time, you have to call them 5 times and they will hear u once. The tables are not cleaned until n unless you ask them 5 to 6 times to do so. We ordered coffee and v asked to clear the table first but nobody came. It was 5th time v requested it to be cleared then a person came and he cleaned only half the table, half of it was still dirty. When coffee arrived, they kept it on pantry, when they served it was already cold. And sugar came after 5 minutes when we asked waiter to bring sugar. It is common sense , you will serve sugar with coffee. Then we asked coffee to be reheated. So entire food experience was spoiled by service n staff. There is no smile on their face, no etiquette to serve the guests. You can definitely go there for food but pls do some meditation, so that you have enough of patience to deal with staff and...
