I went to Sura with my family to celebrate my birthday (picked the place based on google reviews).
Other than the ambience everything else was a complete disaster.
We reached Sura & were greeted by a drunk man (claiming to be the security guard) guiding us where to park our car. The boy assigned with valet duty was parking another car. Later on after reaching the restaurant, the valet guy asked us to give our car keys as he had to move it to a better place (as per him) accusing us of parking at a wrong place. When we told him we were guided by the hotel staff, he arrogantly denied. (The least we can expect from a hospitality staff is a bit of decency & courtesy & both seemed to be missing here)
We went to the restaurant, ordered our starters, drinks & main course. The soup (manchow) tastes like a concoction of salt, vinegar & soya sauce only with a few veggies (even after telling the waiter twice the soup couldn't be fixed) The starters took forever to arrive. We ordered dahi ke kebab but were served hara bhara kebab, when we told the waiter he confirmed that what was served to us is dahi ke kebab only. I have never seen or eaten a green, palak filled dahi ke kebab in my life!
The nachos tasted like mathris made our of stale rotis!
We ordered lal maas, rajasthani chicken curry & paneer tikka masala, everything had one thing in common, SALT! No other taste... The navratan korma lacked even a bit of sweetness. The wait for the rotis was again never ending...
So, I would recommend people to try out this place only at your own risk! especially do not visit this place to celebrate a special day. DO NOT TRUST THE ROSY REVIEWS . WE FELL PREY TO THAT, HOPE YOU ESCAPE...
Read moreHonestly, this is one of the best cocktail bars I've been to. I was blown away by the sheer number of homemade liquors, solutions and spice mixes. They prioritize locally sourced liquors and ingredients. All the cocktails have a Rajasthani backstory. The bartenders are really friendly and knowledgeable. They offered me a ton of different mixtures and liquors. They even took me to the Sura Lab, where they brainstorm their cocktails. The ambience is really soothing. The lighting is dim and the music is ambient pop. The bar's on the rooftop, where there's an air-conditioned section and an open-air section. The bar seating could be improved though. I started off with a few whiskey based cocktails. The Amber Sour, I never imagined fig jam could be paired with Johnnie Walker, but boy was it a great drink to start the night with! The Goosy Godawan with green tea and elderflower, served in a cute, printed cup along with amla candy was the perfect follow-up drink. I've never heard of sesame oils being mixed with whiskey but the Sassy Sesame was a great balance between sweet and briny. I finished off with a Vedic Rasa, whose main ingredient was Maharani Manesar, a Rajasthani liquor, paired with Ashwagandha and served in a meditation bowl on a cushion. It was more of an experience than a drink, and to my surprise it was quite light. It was really good for a final drink. The Penne Alfredo with chicken was really creamy. The Murgh Lasun Tikka was recommended to me and it did not disappoint in the slightest. The Sura Rabdi Kulfi was a grand affair, I really liked the thick rabdi spread throughout. The prices are not unreasonable. I would definitely recommend this place...
Read moreWe went there in search of good cocktails. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the drinks. We absolutely hate where the Indian cocktails are going, people consume sugar syrups thinking they are having cocktails. There is lack of demand and that usually doesn't lead to better consumer choices.
We specifically requested drinks with low or no sugar. I went with Sassy Sesame, a Whiskey and Tir based drink. This drink was quite good with nutty flavor from sesame and amber notes coming from whiskey. I didn't like the garnish of Sesame chikki as its sweetness overpowered the actual drink. 4/5. I would recommend the bartender to try smoking it with some black Sesame seeds to up the flavor.
The second drink was Jamun gin and tonic. The drink was well balanced and low on sugar that I liked. I wish the Jamun flavor came could have been a bit stronger. Jamun on its own is such a complex flavored fruit. The bitter sweet fruit is a great choice to pair with Gin. 3.5/5.
The third drink was Ghodavan whiskey based drink. It was served with lots of ice. I don't completely remember the flavor of this one. I would have preferred this had lower sugar content. Overall, I liked the combination of Amla with whiskey. This profile was inspiring. 3.5/5.
Giving it 5 stars as this place needs to appreciated for daring to mix complex flavors and trying to convince people that India can do good...
