MRA Bakery and Restaurant (Kannur) — Restaurant in Kannur

It used to be our get together dinner place. But recently we visited there and had some bad experience which i am going to share here pointwise.

1. the basement parking. They charge 20 rupees for one hour parking in there basement. It was an okay parking lot before. But this time i felt like i parked my car in a horror movie location. I have uploaded pictures here. It was stinking and felt like vomiting. We shoulf have returned and went to some other restaurant at that time only. But previous experience of this restaurant made us go up and eat which turned out to be a day spoiling decision for us.

2. Hygine. Its a famous restaurant in kannur. But this time i was bewildered and disappointed to see the way the idea of hygiene they are having. I can rank them as the worst place in case of hygiene in kannur.

3. menu. They changed their menu. It might be a management decision. I was unhappy they stopped BEEF BIRIYANI.

4. SERVICE. THIS IS THE WORST PART. THEY WERE FAMOUD FOR THE HOSPITALITY. ITS OK TO HAVE WAITERS WHO DONT SPEAK MALAYALAM. BUT ITS NOT OK TO HAVE STAFF WHO DOESNT CARE OR RESPECT THEIR CUSTOMERS. WE WAITED 20 MINUTES TO GET A WAITER EVENTHOUGH IT IS LESS CROWDED COMPARED TO LAST TIME. AND ONE GUY TOOK OUR ORDER AND DELIVERED WRONG QUANTITY AND STARTED ARGUING WITH US AS IF IT WAS OUR MISTAKE. HE COULD HAVE JUST SAID SORRY AND PROCEDD TO GET US EXTRA PORTION WE ORDERD INSTEAD HE CHOOSE ARGUMENTS. HE WAS ARGUING AND MAKING HIS INSULTING AND STUPID SMILE UNTILL THE OWNER CAME AND INTERVIENED.

5. TASTE NOT SO MRA TASTE. I DIDNT LIKE THE FOOD AS MUCH I USED TO.

6. AGAIN BASEMENT PARKING.

WHILE WE WERE RETURNING I ASKED MY FELLOW PEOPLE GET OUT FROM THE MAIN ENTRANCE SO THAT THEY DONT HAVE TO GO THROUGH THAT STINKING DIRTY AREA. I WENT ALONE TO GET THE CAR AND FELT LIKE VOMITTING.

FINAL RESULT : I MADE A DECISION NOT TO RETURN TO THIS PLACE EVER AGIN NO MATTER WHAT.

MRA Bakery and Restaurant is located at a walkable distance from Kannur Railway Station. So it is a great boon for the passengers travelling in and out of Kannur through trains. The bakery is located in the ground floor and the best quality sweets of Kannur is available here with great hygiene. The MRA restaurant is located in the first floor with both a/c and non-a/c restaurants. The restaurant is spacious to accommodate a moderate crowd. The food is really tasty and with good quantity. We tried out kerala porottas, chilly chicken, appam, Kuttanadan fish curry, ghee rice, chicken-65, tea and black tea. The food was excellent without any negative comments. The quality, quantity and taste of the food we ordered were highly appreciable from the customer point of view. The only drawback we found was the staff taking the order and delivering it was only one person. He was busy with other customers as he was the only person taking orders and we had to call him many times to take the order. It took him more than 20 minutes to give us the menu and 10 more minutes to take the order. We even complained the person at the cash counter than no one is attending our table to take the order. After placing the order the service was really quick to deliver it. The ordered beverages were also delivered quickly.

They accept cash as well as card payments. The pricing of the food we ordered were also reasonable. The restaurant is clean and tidy but not organized properly as we could find drinking water bottles stocked near to the dining table hindering space. The hand wash area and toilets are also neat and clean. There is average ambience inside the restaurant and the restaurant is well lit. Overall it was a good experience dining at...

A safe option in Kannur to have quality food.

MRA is bustling with crowd almost all the time. The dining space is quite large and well kept. The staff and service is cordial and attends to you in no time.

The Afternoon Meals is a must try here. It is delicious and offers quite an elaborate spread of side dishes - a mini sadya I must say.

Another dish I’d happily recommend (must try in my opinion) is the Neer Dosa and Chicken Ghee Roast offered starting evening. The dish is a little too rich with oil, but my goodness, does it play the right chords in your mouth.

The Grills are good, but not the best. The other dishes offered are of good quality, but not the best in terms of taste.

Mushakkal Tawa is a Mix tawa platter (Chicken, Mutton, Fish, Squids and Prawns) than can easily fill a group of 4-5 with more than average appetite, at a cost of 1200/- per platter.

Conclude your feast with their Jagath Special Milkshake.

The menu is priced a wee little to the premium, but nothing that isn’t acceptable.

One of the best bakery’s in town - serves almost all delicacies one could drool over.

A large spread of snacks (kadi’s), drinks, sweets, halwas, dry fruits, biscuits/cookies, cakes, pastries and the typical household items (murukk, achappams, etc) are offered at reasonable-moderately high prices.

There is also an Arabian Sweet section serving Baklavas.

During festivities, the season specialities are offered.

The staff is very humble, sweet and cordial.
