During a recent family trip to Coorg, we were in search of authentic Coorg-style food, and our homestay owner recommended New Church Side Restaurant in Madikeri. This turned out to be a great suggestion! The restaurant is attached to a bar, but the family dining area is completely separate and well-maintained. It has a spacious ambiance with a huge parking area, making it convenient for visitors.
Dining Experience
We visited on a Saturday evening, and the place was bustling with people, which shows its popularity. Despite the heavy rush, the service was fairly smooth, and we got a table without much delay.
What We Ordered
We decided to go for a mix of traditional Coorg dishes and some common favorites: • Kadambettu (Rice Dumplings) with Chicken – This was the highlight of the meal! The soft and fluffy Kadambettu paired perfectly with the flavorful chicken curry. • Chicken Chidkan (Choodal) & Pork Chidkan (Choodal) – These are locally known dishes, stir-fried with Coorg-style spices. While both were good, they didn’t stand out as exceptional. • Roti & Pork Curry (Pandi Curry) – The Pandi Curry was outstanding, rich in flavors and cooked in the traditional Coorg style. It was one of the best dishes of the night. • Sweet & Sour Soup & Sweet Corn Soup – The sweet and sour soup was too spicy, making it a bit overpowering, but the sweet corn soup was fine.
Overall Verdict
The restaurant offers genuine Coorg cuisine, making it a great place for those who want to try local flavors. The Kadambettu with chicken and Pandi Curry were the best dishes of the evening. Though some items like the chidkan (choodal) and sweet & sour soup didn’t meet expectations, the overall experience was good and satisfying.
Highly recommended for visitors to Madikeri who are looking to enjoy authentic Coorg-style food in a fine...

Read moreWorst Customer Experience I ever had. I visited this Hotel for a dinner along with my friends and we were 10 in number. We ordered different starters. We got it after 30+ mins. For one of the dish, chicken wasn't properly cooked(flesh). Since, everyone had to confirm the quality we were supposed to taste. Then we complained it to the server and Manager. Even though its their responsibility to accept the mistake, they hesitated to accept it. My friends and myself are calm and accepted that its our mistake to choose a wrong hotel. Then we purposefully mentioned the waiter to bring properly cooked food. The same thing happened for our second order we got literally frustrated with the food they delivered. Comparatively the first item was far better than the newly bought item. when we raised this to the person @ cash counter he started projecting that we went there to bring negative idea about his hotel and started calling his customer, badly. First of all Food cost is high. Secondly, customer satisfaction doesn't matter them. Third, they dont know how to treat their customers, when they are with mistakes.
I never recommend this Restaurant to any...
