DO NOT EVER VISIT THIS BRANCH IN A GROUP. We were so excited to try out a new place to dine in the temple city, Udupi. We asked them to reserve the table for us as we were a group of 10, to which they declined telling that they have not yet started taking the prior reservations . Thus we called them again in the evening to make sure that our trip would not be in vain . They told we could wait a couple of minutes to get a table n therefore reached the place by 8pm. Initially they told we had to wait for 10 mins which was later added up by 20 more and we ended up waiting for about 1hr and 30mins .After finally getting 2 different tables , we placed our order for soup and starters which was served after about 30 mins i.e 10pm. And the cleaning staff was so dull , uneneegetic and messy that we had to ask them to clean our tables again.Post this we were asked to hurry up our order for the main course etc and were told that ice creams n juices of any kind would no longer be served . This forced us to place the order for our entire main course all at once . Rice was ready on the table before the rotis. When we voiced out our dismay with this haywire, they claimed that none of this was a fault on their part. But I don't see any fault on part of my family either since we had reached the place way before their closing time. Most of the people dining before us were not served the food on time either. When we expressed our review about the service , the waiter and the management lashed out telling that we were lucky enough to even have been served the food which was really disappointing ,to which we told that we had paid for the food. They did not show any regret with our review and did not show any room for improvement either. They just told they were helpless n made weird faces . One of them even told us not to wait and go dine elsewhere which shows their poor service . Being a three storied building , they have a mere capacity for 80 people to dine at once . At the end of the day , we had to return home after wasting 3 hours for the food which was served cold as it was being brought to the first floor from the 2nd. I can't begin to imagine the plight of the service boys/ uncles who have to climb between the floors to bring the food. The waiters did not serve the food on the plates , we had to do it on our own. The lift was small and could occpy only 3 people at once . So kindly do not visit this branch in groups of 4 or more , you will not reach back home...
Read moreI visited the Paakashala Udupi branch recently, and honestly, it was a very disappointing experience.
The service was super slow. It took 36 minutes to get a coffee, and when we asked about it, the staff said they had a shortage of cups. But really ? I feel so ridiculous reason the staff gave... They charge an extra 5% GST on already overpriced items, which doesn’t feel justified. The prices are way too high for what they serve, especially in Udupi, a city known for its great food at reasonable prices. The staff seemed completely confused. Nobody knew what they were doing, and the service was all over the place. I expected better respect and responsibility from the team, especially as they’ve just opened. Charging more doesn’t make a brand successful. You need proper management and customer care to make it work. If you’re looking for better food, service, and pricing, I’d recommend visiting Pai Tiffins instead. Paakashala management should take some notes from them on how to treat customers and run a hotel properly. A fellow customer next to me even joked, “Do they bring coffee and tea from another shop?” That says a lot about how long the wait times were. The difference in pricing for self-service and table service was confusing, too. For example, a single vada costs ₹45 plus GST—ridiculous for Udupi. If this is how they’re running things in their first week, I doubt they’ll last long unless they make serious...
Read moreWe recently dined at Paakashala in Udupi and enjoyed a mixed meal that offered both hits and misses. We started with a Veg Manchow Soup, which set the stage for a satisfying meal. For the main course, we had a combination of curd rice with pickle, butter naan with paneer butter masala, and a mixed salad. To finish, we had carrot halwa for dessert.
The curd rice was notably good, with a well-balanced taste and a pleasant texture. The butter naan was another highlight—soft, warm, and perfect for pairing with the main dishes. The paneer butter masala, while enjoyable, had a homemade quality to it, which might be appreciated by those looking for a more personal touch in their dining experience.
However, the mixed salad fell short of expectations. The cucumber, in particular, lacked flavor, making the salad seem somewhat uninspired. The carrot halwa was also underwhelming. It needed more caramelization to enhance its sweetness and depth. The raw carrot taste was prominent at times, suggesting it could benefit from additional ghee and a longer cooking time to achieve a more refined texture and flavor.
Overall, Paakashala offers a decent dining experience with its warm and inviting atmosphere. While some dishes met expectations, others had room for improvement. It’s a reliable option for a casual meal, but there are areas where enhancements could elevate the...
