This is an inhouse vegetarian restaurant of White Lotus Hotel. Located on mezzanine floor, this restaurant welcomes you with majestic white double door entrance. Truly photoworthy sight.
I happened to dine here and order room service from here. On my first evening in the hotel, I had ordered Dal Khichdi, Masala Papad and Kurkuri Bhindi. While Dal Khichdi was light on stomach, with abundant ghee in it, I could not find the usual accompaniments. I think this is like a rule "Khichdi ke hai 3 yaar - Dahi, Papad aur Aachar" (ET: Khichdi has 3 best friends - Curd, Papad and pickle). They do not honour this rule. Papad they had sent was shining with oil, so did not touch it. Kurkuri Bhindi was doughy. For the dessert, I had ordered Rose Falooda and I have never seen and tasted anything that looks and tastes less like Rose Falooda. Someone has mentioned in the reviews that their Faloodas are a disaster. I should have listened to them.
Our daily breakfast was set in this restaurant. Contrary to the hotel, I found this restaurant a bit gloomy and a bit basic comparatively. On the food front, their breakfast item were simply marvellous. I will never forget the taste of their Shevige Upma, Mangalore Buns and Pav Bhaji. I also happened to enjoy my ultimate favorite 'Gulab Firni' (Yes, I like rose flavour) on my final day of stay.
Like the hotel, this restaurant is also decorated with Krishna paintings. You can find many lores in them. The staff is lovely. The service was quick. Overall, good and...
Read moreNoisy is one word definition of atmosphere. If you are looking for fine dine; avoid.
Service quality is very poor, tables are not cleaned until next customer arrive seats and ask to clean a table. Water glass and tissue are given when asked. Waiter suggests some dishes which are famous if you ask for someother dish from Menu. I have seen many Waiters and white dressed manager looking 2-3 guys always collide (in one hour 4-5 times). For in rooms order of some guest, drink was ready half and hour ago and then once his other dish is ready Waiter took it to lift to delivery. This way, that drink would have become hotter.
Looking at reviews; we gave a try; but it's spoiler for us. We ordered Kaju ghee rost based on the waiters suggestion with Nan, They give ghee rosted 200 grams of kaju without any gravy or semi gravy. Who eats 200 gram kaju at once ? Makai Badam soup we tried that also poor and faint.
Some items, Foods quality is ok, but not at that high level as muc as it's hyped. So, I have 2 stars for food. Looks like it is a good North Indian restaurant in udupi, but it is always crowded with Manipal students. Tourists should avoid this one.
Suggestion for management : If your hotel is most of time full of guests, keep your main resurant that caters guests at high service level. Otherwise, you are risking repeat customers for hotel...
Read moreI visited this restaurant last evening with friends, expecting the usual peaceful ambiance we’ve enjoyed before. Unfortunately, it was overcrowded, and the staff seemed overwhelmed and unresponsive. Although we tried to be patient given the situation, communication became a major hurdle. The staff only spoke Hindi—not the local languages Kannada or Tulu, nor English—which made ordering difficult.
We ordered a ghee masala dosa but received three regular masala dosas instead. When we pointed it out, the staff started arguing with us rather than resolving the issue. Later, a staff member dropped our biryani on the table with what felt like frustration, as if he was throwing it. We tried to stay calm, but sadly, even the food was disappointing this time, probably due to the crowd.
The final straw was the bill. We were charged for two masala dosas when we only had one, and the item was suddenly switched to ghee masala dosa, which we never received. It was a very frustrating experience, and it truly tarnished our previous good memories of the place.
We considered speaking with the manager but chose not to waste more time on what was already a disappointing evening. Think twice before visiting if they’re busy—it only takes one bad experience to undo...
