For some people, food is not the means to survive, it’s their life. Even after they are done with their three staple meals, they have to hog on food and keep dreaming about the food they are going to have. (Already salivating?). Adam is also that kind of person who loves to eat varieties of meals and wonder the food lovers with his preparation in different tastes. He found the real smell of meal in the kitchen of Malabar.Destination to destination, Adam has tasted and studied the style of each dish in his table. He used to start preparing these styles in his kitchen. And he loves to make varieties of food for everyone. Around all these food and preparation, Adam realized that a restaurant can utilize his talent of food making and can give styles of variety meals to the customers. ‘Adaminde Chayakkada’ was born from this thought. Being a true Malabari at heart, these dishes were then redesigned to impress the Moplah taste buds.
Adaminde Albudha Nombthura’ was Adam’s stepping stone to Kozhikode food industry. It became a bit of sensation. Needless to say, everybody loved everything about it. We call our menu ‘Fusion Cuisine’ as we combine the tastes of different countries with ours into something worth trying. On weekend mornings, we invite our guests to rise and shine for our endless breakfast buffet, which features ‘The Royal Malabar Naastha’.

Read moreAdaminte Chayakkada in Malayalam means "Tea Shop run by Adam"! Although the ambience in the restaurant can't be related to the times of Adam and Eve, you will be taken back to the era of commodity bazaars and history of Kozhikode beyond 50 years. They have recreated the ambience of yester years with antiques and relics of the past including a wide range of valve radios, televisions, copper vessels, antique furniture with sacks of rice as back rests. This deserves one visit of anyone who comes to Calicut. However, vegetarians are amply warned of the heavy non-veg bias of the food on offer. By the way, the heritage and old world ambience need a little bit of getting used to. You can't blame anyone if one thinks that the place is a bit dusty and under-maintained.
This is a very popular place in town, located near the beach and you are likely to find the place crowded, especially in the evenings.
We had ordered their popular Arabic dishes and local fish varieties. We had fancy items like meat wrapped in parottas and regular appams with fish mango curry. Probably, because of the heavy rush and we had gone in by late evening, some items were not available. I would imagine that the chef and assistants were struggling to meet the customer's needs. Some in our group felt that certain dishes served were marginally under-cooked and not well marinated. Perhaps most customers and serious non-vegetarians may have nothing much to complain about. Overall, the food was spicy and tasty as expected and can be rated as good (3/5). Just as some dishes are given fancy names, some of them have fancy price tags as well.
To summarize, my first visit to Adaminte Chayakkada was definitely interesting. As for a repeat visit, I am...
