Hapinau — Restaurant in Kerala

Last week, I visited Hapinau with my family. It is uncommon for my wife and me to have coffee after 8:00 p.m., but when our children expressed their desire for coffee, I decided to stop there. Unsure about the types of coffee they served, I asked the person inside for details and initially ordered just one coffee, saying we would order more if the children liked it.

The person I spoke to was not the coffee maker. He appeared somewhat displeased, perhaps because my wife, who has a darker complexion, and I were in simple home attire, and we had ordered only one coffee. While waiting, we decided to add a donut to our order. However, the man was inattentive, and it took an unusually long time to serve the donut.

When the coffee arrived, we tasted it, found it satisfactory, and placed an order for another coffee and donut. At this point, the man switched off the TV and some lights before leaving the area. The coffee maker then served us our second order. Unfortunately, one of my children had not finished the first donut, yet the server took the plate and served the second donut on the same plate.

We ordered the much talked about 5 layered torte cake, choco dip cookies, butter cookies, sausage roll and butterscotch cake. Absolutely loved the sausage roll, very different from what we usually get in Thrissur, didn't have overflowing mayo, a nice mix of mayo, sauce and sausage. The torte cake was ok. Not the best.
