Despite being a self-service restaurant, the staff members were readily available to answer any questions and offer recommendations. I ordered the putt and kadala curry, as well as the idli. The putt, a traditional South Indian dish made with steamed rice flour, was executed to perfection. It was light, fluffy, and had just the right amount of seasoning. The accompanying kadala curry, a spicy curry, complemented the putt beautifully along with pappadam. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, leaving me craving for more. The idli deserves a special mention. It was incredibly soft, moist, and melted in my mouth. I’ve been a loyal customer of Ideli since its inception and have witnessed both the highs and occasional dips in their food quality over time. However, one issue I’ve consistently noticed and unfortunately experienced to an unacceptable extent today (24 July 2025) is the arrogance and inappropriate behaviour of the owner, which has also been acknowledged by the staff.

This kind of arrogant attitude is not a one-off incident, it has become a constant and seemingly normal part of the experience at Ideli. On several visits, it’s common to find the owner and his wife speaking loudly or even shouting at staff, creating an uncomfortable environment for customers.

Today’s incident, however, was the tipping point. I had just taken a seat with my food when the owner sat right next to me and began sneezing repeatedly, at least five times, without covering his mouth, using a tissue, or turning away. He made no effort to step aside, despite being in a closed dining space surrounded by customers. It was not just unhygienic but also incredibly inconsiderate.

I couldn’t even begin eating. I had to get up and leave immediately, as the setting became completely unfit for a meal. I informed the staff of what had happened and requested a refund, which they processed. But what was most disappointing was the owner’s complete lack of basic decency, he didn’t offer so much as an apology.

As someone who has supported this establishment since the beginning, this experience was not only deeply disappointing but unacceptable. No customer should have to tolerate such disregard in a place that claims to value...
