Among the four Indian Coffee House outlets in Thalassery, the one near the new bus stand—accessible by a short flight of stairs—stands out for its charming colonial-era ambiance. I often find myself returning here whenever I crave their signature beetroot veg cutlets. I usually end up ordering two to three plates, accompanied by a crisp uzhunnu vada served with chutney and sambar—though I must admit, the vada tends to be too oily to indulge in large quantities.
Surprisingly, even as someone who generally avoids dosa, I find their masala dosa quite inviting, thanks to its aromatic flavor. I frequently opt for cutlet parcels as well—watching them pack it in green plantain leaf, then wrap it with foil and brown paper is oddly satisfying. There’s a nominal charge of ₹3 for the packaging, but it adds to the traditional touch.
This outlet also retains the charm of old-school dining—you often end up sharing your table with strangers due to the crowd, just like in classic Indian eateries.
The only downside? The wash area. It's located uncomfortably close to the toilet, and the unpleasant odor makes you instinctively hold your breath while washing your hands. It’s definitely in need of better hygiene...

Read moreVery bad experience. The price of one meal there is rupees 45, generally in Thalassery at almost all the other places it is 40. And also despite of buying a 5 rupees extra than all the other places, their service is too bad. Also the rice given the first time is in a very small bowl and the same in the second case. If We combine the rice in these two bowls, it won't add up to the amount of rice we get in one serve from other restaurants. Then wanting somemore rice to satisfy our hunger is quite natural. But we can't even do so because to get rice for one more time you will have to pay an additional amount...
