JUST A PLATFORM TO SELL THEIR PRODUCTS - A huge entry ticket (Rs 125) for such a boring museum. Every Monday closed. The Museum has some old machinery related to tea processing, some old phones and some mounted trophies. A small documentary on the tea plantation of Munnar is good only if you are interested in the history. After that you will head to fist floor for a small lecture on the benefits of tea/ green tea and the man who gives the lecture explains biology/ Human Science by giving some irrelevant examples of a infant and an adult. He also claims that the Sanjivni Booti - the herb Hanuman searched for - was the tea. After that you visit a room with an old setup of tea processing machines ( very different form the latest machines used now ) in working condition and at last a big shop to purchase different types of tea, chocolates, coffee and spices. But one thing to keep in mind that each and every product is not their own manufactured. So shop wisely and do not get influenced by their claims. The A class green tea they sell is much costlier than the market rate and you will find the same quality at a very low price in the Munnar city itself. So do not assume that you will get the best quality here. But one good think that they do not put pressure on you to purchase ...

I recently visited the Mattupetty Tea Factory and was thoroughly impressed by the experience. Our explainer was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and made the entire tour engaging.
The factory's picturesque surroundings, nestled amidst rolling hills and lush greenery, set the tone for an immersive experience. The explainer expertly guided us through each stage of tea production, from leaf selection to packaging.
What struck me most was the attention to detail and commitment to quality. From withering to rolling, oxidation, and firing, every step is meticulously executed to bring out the unique flavors.

Read moreBeautiful Tea Factory Ever - Carrying forward a lineage that dates back over 136 years to the British Colonial Raj era, the Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company Private Limited (KDHP) succeeded Tata Tea Limited on 1st April, 2005, when the latter exited most of its plantations in Munnar to focus on the growth of its branded tea business. During the year 2004-2005, owing to the general crisis prevalent in the tea industry at the time, Tata Tea Ltd restructured and came up with a proposal to transfer its holdings in the Kanan Devan Hills Village. This was done as part of a restructuring exercise evolved through a detailed study, particularly taking note of the prevalent crisis in the tea industry.
Tea has played an integral part in the history of Munnar. The plantations played a huge role in attracting people to the area. Tata Tea established a Tea Museum in 2005 which has photographs and machineries, which chronicle the journey of tea in the area. The museum set up at the Nallathanni Estate of Tata Tea ensures that the legacy of those who worked hard to ensure the tea plantations survived this long is recognised publicly.
