I was apprehensive tbh when I drove from Thrissur to Calicut just so that i could have a taste of the "best pepper steak in town" as recommended to me by their many "fans". Mac's cafe struck out to me as a very cosy place as a first impression in contrast to other many fancy steak houses i have visited and that is because they not only serve steaks but they have a great variety of scrumptious dishes to choose from their vibrant menu.
Coming back to the steak, i always like mine "medium rare" and I usually wait to be asked how I like the meat prepared while I place my order rather than me giving them out voluntarily And the pleasant waiter passed my secret test. He came across as a person who was well trained and knew the cuts. He asked me the right questions and offered me the perfect recommendations.
The steak arrived after it's due cooking time. So did the moment of truth. Let me tell you firstly, the veggies were fresh out of the garden. The mashed potato spread out on the plate was a part of design i believe and topped with a fried egg bullseye on the steak. Why? Dunno I guess it's a local thing. Coming to the steak... Trust me it needed no decorations nor extras. The tenderloin meat was cooked just right. The melange of flavours of pepper sauce with garlic, butter & rosemary sprigs with every bite filled your mouth palate begging for more. (Writing this makes my mouth water). I wouldn't be the right person to judge on the price of the dish and tell you if it's pricey for you or not (depends on your pocket really) but i can guarantee you the value in return is definitely worth every penny.
Guess what? I am now a "fan!"
Would i take the drive again from Thrissur to Calicut to Mac's Cafe? (Next time with family and friends ofcourse)
Simple answer: HELL YES!!...

Read moreI had the worst cafe experience here on 13/01/2024.
Let me just clear it out that I was a big fan of macs cafe when they had a humble cafe near Palayam and I was a regular customer because of their amazing burgers and steak.
But ever since they moved to the big and fancy place, the quality of food and service has just become really bad. I have been to the new outlet thrice and the food was below average on all these visits.
On 13/01/2024, I placed an order for 2 pastas and a burger at 10:00 PM and we only received the food at 11:15 PM. They only had 3 staffs for all the floors in total. It was not just us but all the other customers at the cafe were complaining about this as well. Please keep in mind that the restaurant was having about average rush for a weekend. We understood the staffs plight so we would never blame them for it but I blame the management for being so understaffed on a weekend.
The food was really really bland and was at the worst out of all my visits to this cafe. When I went to complain about this to the person who sits at the billing counter about this, he did not even apologise or even look sorry for what had happened, all he said was that "Aah angane aayi poyi" and it was shocking.
This cafe had a lot of potential but with such management and bad attitude, I do not know if they will go on...
