Oriental Spices at Kuravankonam has been a well-known name for years, and it continues to be a reliable spot for those who love Chinese and continental cuisine. On my recent visit, I tried their West Lake Lamb Soup, and it was simply delicious – rich, flavorful, and a perfect start to the meal. Their Dragon Chicken as a starter was also quite impressive, with the right balance of spice and crispness.
However, I felt the Chilly Chicken and the Vandi Chicken with Egg Fried Rice leaned more towards a noodle-like taste, which was a bit different from my expectation. While not bad, it didn’t stand out compared to the other dishes.
The staff service is excellent – very attentive, polite, and welcoming, which adds a lot to the overall dining experience. The cleanliness here deserves appreciation too, including the bathrooms which are maintained really well. The ambience, though, feels a little dull and could use some refreshing touches.
Overall, Oriental Spices is a trustworthy restaurant with quality food that locals and regulars can rely on. The only thing is that the taste sometimes fluctuates between visits, but when they get it right, it’s...

There was a time when I believed their Asian and Chinese dishes were authentic. However, after traveling and experiencing truly authentic Chinese, Tibetan, and broader Asian cuisine, I no longer feel that Oriental Spice captures that authenticity. This is likely due to modifications made to cater to local palates.
On this occasion, I tried their Chicken Thukpa. Having enjoyed Thukpa from various establishments, including Tibetan settlements, and deeply appreciating its rich chicken broth and thick noodles, I was disappointed with Oriental Spice's rendition. It didn't quite satisfy either a local preference or the expectations of someone seeking an authentic experience. The broth was bland and tasted like a vegetable soup.
I would still highly recommend this restaurant for those who enjoy an Indian interpretation of Chinese and Asian flavors. However, the Thukpa, in my opinion, deserves a more authentic...

Location wise and ambience is very good here. It is prime location and has some parking out front. Sometimes the guards on duty will help you out with parking as well. The restaurant is reasonably clean and well decorated.
Staff were friendly nothing exceptional but the overall service was good.
Now the bad, the food. I’m lost for words, I got hummus and I can assure you that it’s not hummus. 100% there was no tahini in the hummus I got, most probably it’s from a bottle another made on site. The so called “Asian” menu is also a joke, there are so many restaurants in Trivandrum which serves better Asian and Indo Chinese food. So I thought let’s try kadai chicken and chicken tikka masala. When it came out the chicken tikka masala was chicken masala. It’s so sad, if the food was good this would have been one of my regular eats in Trivandrum
On the bright side, the choc brownie with ice cream was...
