Urula Restaurant, Kochi – A Feast for the Senses
Urula truly impressed me — from the moment I stepped in, it was clear that this place blends great food with even better hospitality.
The ambiance is stylish yet rooted in Kerala’s rustic charm, and the ground staff were exceptional. Right from guiding me through the menu to checking in post-meal, the service was thoughtful and personal. Big shout-out to the valet and front desk team — always smiling, polite, and professional. Parking is another big win here — ample space, which is rare in Kochi city restaurants.
Now, to the food — where Urula truly shines:
Honey Chilli Cauliflower: Wow. Perfectly glossy, crisp on the outside, juicy inside. The quantity was more than generous, and it was plated beautifully — easily one of the best versions of this dish I’ve had.
Beef Kurkure with Baby Potatoes: This one was a surprise delight. The kurki potatoes added an earthy aroma — honestly, it reminded me of that nostalgic smell of rain hitting dry soil. And combined with tender, flavorful beef, it was just next-level.
Falooda: Overloaded in the best way possible — chilled, rich, and packed with fresh fruits. I'd recommend they take it up a notch by adding jelly cubes, sabja (tulsi) seeds, mini payasam pearls like javarisi or navara rice, and maybe even crisp waffle sticks or chocolate shards for crunch. Still, it was a great end to the meal.
Giant Fish Roast: The fish was large, meaty, and loaded with spices. It was cooked well, though I did notice a bit of ammonia stench, possibly from deep-sea fish. That was the only minor letdown, but the flavors made up for it.
Urula also seems well-equipped to handle large groups, with spacious seating and a well-managed crowd even on busy nights.
In short, Urula is a modern Kerala culinary gem with thoughtful service, abundant portions, and creative dishes that surprise you. I’ll definitely be coming back — maybe with a bigger appetite and some...
Read moreDeciding to go to this restaurant for a Kerala meals lunch initially sparked some hesitation, fueled by some negative and mixed reviews we read about the lunch (Kerala Meals) served here.
However, what awaited us was nothing short of a delightful experience. The number and combinations of curries accompanying the rice was quite impressive, each dish complementing each other with authentic flavors.
Adding to it, we ordered Prawns fry and fish tawa fry, both of which were equally good.
The standout feature, though, was the impeccable service. Without needing to beckon a server desperately (as in other similar restaurants), they ensured our dining experience remained seamless, proactively refilling our curries before we could even finish one.
Despite the lack of air conditioning, the restaurant's high ceilings and ventilation system provided some relief from the summer heat. However, it's worth noting that spicy food and hot climates don't always complement each other, making the lack of air conditioning a slight drawback, especially during the summer months.
While parking proved to be a minor inconvenience, with cars blocking exits, the vigilant security team swiftly resolved any issues, ensuring a hassle-free departure.
Overall, this restaurant offers not just a culinary journey through Kerala's flavors but also an experience marked by attentive service and reasonable prices.
With a slight tolerance for the warmth and parking quirks, we will surely be keeping this restaurant as a preferred option in the future. And it's definitely worth a try for those who haven't...
Read moreVisited this restaurant during a busy afternoon as the lunch rush was just starting. It's conveniently located near Infopark, so it tends to get crowded quickly. The restaurant is spacious with multiple seating options, which is great. However, the parking situation was a hassle. The parking lot is limited, and they don’t collect the keys for cars parked behind others, so you might have to wait until the other customer returns to move your car. This could definitely be handled better.
The food looked great, but unfortunately, it didn’t fully meet expectations. We ordered porotta, beef fry, chicken Manchurian, and honey-glazed chicken. While the porotta was crispy when served hot, it turned hard as it cooled down. The beef fry was well-cooked but overly oily, as though oil had been poured on top after cooking. The honey-glazed chicken had a good crispy texture and flavor but was dry and overcooked to the point of being tough. The chicken Manchurian was just okay. Portion sizes were disappointing considering the price. Additionally, instead of tissue holders, they just place the entire tissue packet on the table, which felt a bit careless.
The experience at billing was frustrating. We had to wait unnecessarily because their card machine wasn’t charged, and they were relying on a...
