Keep it simple! Keep it honest and keep it real!! We have this constant urge to add spice to everything, eventually killing original flavours and changing something into a whole new thing. What I love about #AhLeung is that they’ve managed keep it simple and yet have queues of food enthusiasts (yes in Bengal, everyone loves their food). Just about 4-5 items on the menu & they’re all cooked to perfection. It’s food that you will not get in any other part of the city - simple, original, honest flavour that are so delicious on the tongue and light on the stomach. Absolutely fresh wanton noodles if you want to sound fancy, #XiaoMian if you want to sound authentic or #SingaraChow if you want to be local aka desi. So fresh, they’re actually made right then and there and that’s what contributes to the flavour. Another favourite is the chilli chicken…like no other. Nowadays even the Calcutta style chilli chicken has undergone many changes - adulteration! I call it. But the #chillichicken at Ah Leung is legend!! Since everything is so fresh, there’s only a limited quantity made everyday and it sells out pretty quick. So if you want to eat genuinely good food, go early, queue up, place your order and get served genuine, delicious #homemade food. And yes, cash payments only - so make sure you carry some. It’s very reasonable so don’t stress. Also know that it’s located in a narrow lane, so you can get dropped off and will need to walk a short distance. There’s no chai, coffee but you can wash it all down with #ThumsUp or #Pepsi When I posted these videos on my story, I asked whether I should create a reel, and 17 of you responded in the affirmative…this is especially for you! #chinesefood #authentic #tangrastyle #foodlovers #originalandbest #chinesefood #deliciousness #reataurantsinkolkata #kolktafoodie #foodlove #letsgoeat #eatreal #cityofjoy #kolkatavibes #tangravibes #tangra #calcuttafood #kolkatafood #streetfood #noodles #oodlesofnoodles #redgate #foodblog #chinatown

This is probably the most hyped place in China Town. Ah Leung is labeled as one of Kolkata's top breakfast places by various YouTubers. Don't believe them, YouTubers can make content out of anything just to get views.. I dropped my bike off at the Topsia service center and walked 35 minutes to have brunch here. Was that long walk worth it? Singara Chowmin @ Rs.120 (2/5) Roast Chilli Pork Half @ Rs.320 (1/5) ---------------------------------------------- These two dishes are their specialties. It doesn't matter if the noodles are homemade; the Shingara Chow tasted similar to those at other breakfast places in Chinatown, like Kimli, Kim Pou, and Lee Eating House. The wontons were quite a bit smaller, had less filling, and were not as juicy compared to other places. The Chilli Pork was a disaster. While there was more lean meat than fat compared to other places, it was swimming in burnt black oil at the bottom. Check the photos for proof. I've tried Chilli Pork at countless places, so don't tell me how good Chilli Pork should look. The portion was also quite small for the price. Probably the worst Chllli pork in Kolkata. On top of that, their prices are quite steep. Half portion of Chilli Pork is Rs.320 here, whereas you can get a full portion of good-quality Chilli Pork at Tung Nam, DLey or Rinki for Rs.230-280. Breakfast for 2 costs around Rs.1200 here, why not a good restaurant then? I tried to discuss the same with them but seemed like they hardly care. They said taste depends person to person and the owner or Big Boss go to their place. If you believe that you're seriously a fool. It was absolutely not worth the long walk through the lanes to have their shit. At least they have AC dining, which is why I’m giving them 2 stars; otherwise, I would have rated them 1 star. It's absolutely not worth it to go so deep to have their shit. At least they have AC dining, which is why I’m giving them 2 stars; otherwise, I would have rated them 1 star.

Sunday breakfast at Ah Leung, set inside the labyrinth of narrow by-lanes of China Town. They are known for their wonton noodles, often referred to as 'Singara Chow." Once upon a time, Bong imagination ran wild, and wontons were equated with the ubiquitous Singara, thus the name. The noodles are long and slithery, and you can pick a strand up from the plate with a fork and roll it around almost like thread on a bobbin. You don't come by this sort of noodle easily, and that's what I like about them. We ordered the wonton noodles and garlic noodles. Garlic noodles come sans the wontons and in a different flavour. The noodles were accompanied with fried chilli chicken and roasted chilli pork. We also ordered a portion of pork wontons and a few bowls of clear soup to wash down everything. A nice start came to a somewhat annoying end that spoilt our mood. When the bill came (a piece of paper with food and price details scribbled on it), to our surprise we noted that they charged us Rs.600/- for a portion of the roasted chilli pork. We know it's Rs. 300/-, and some of us were regulars here. Since there is no menu card, as a standard practice, we had also confirmed the price with them before ordering today as well. When confronted, they claimed that the price was for a 'half portion,' and they had served a full plate, hence the price. Going by the quantity and our past experience, we clearly knew that what they are claiming is wrong. Even for the chicken, they billed us Rs. 400/-, which we also think is not justified. However, we were in no mood to enter into an altercation and ruin a beautiful Sunday; hence, we just settled the bill and came out. They accept only cash; please keep this in mind. Also, before ordering, you should ask and make things very clear so that later on, at the time of settling the bill, you are not caught in this fiasco about full and half portions.
