On the eve of Christmas Day, me and five of my friends had visited Jimmy's Kitchen in Jodhpur Park for an awesome experience of dinner. From "awesome" it changed to "awful" just within a matter of time. First, let me tell you, there wasn't much crowd when we entered or when we left.8-10 seats were vacant.
Things we have ordered and the problems:-
1.Loong Fong Soup- Taste was mediocre but the quantity was too meagre. Price of 210.
Chicken in Hot Garlic sauce- Chicken pieces of 8 was good. Problem is the gravy. It was too less to be shared among two people. In India, 95% of people, if they are ordering 6 pieces dish, that is for sharing between two. When we asked the waiter about it, he said very casually that this is the quantity they serve and we should have told them earlier to increase the gravy's quantity. Price is 280.
Egg Fried Rice and Chicken Prawn Fried Rice - Common problem was semi-cooked rice. Prawn was not deveined. Flavours were below standard. Any school student could make far better than that as per his/her Home Studies project. When we were half done we thought to inform the waiter once again, just to let them know. We didn't have any intentions to return the food. But the waiter thought so and without listening to us properly told us that we should have told him earlier, now he cannot replace the food. After giving his verdict he moved to another table to attend. Price is 210 and 280,respectively.
Things need massive improvement:-
After the customer has taken their sits comfortably, ask them for water within a minute. Don't wait for them to ask for it. Its a general hospitality rules worldwide.
Cook your rice properly, please. Increase it's flavour. It shouldn't be so bland and lifeless like desert.
Increase your soup's quantity. Let's treat it like soup not elixir.
Devein your prawns. It's a culinary crime, hope you know that.
Please add some more water and spices to your gravy. A bit more of a gravy will not hurt...

Read moreJimmy’s Kitchen is an old school Indian Chinese restaurants of Kolkata / India. It was considered as one of the best ones in Kolkata for quite some time. I personally have an interesting history with Jimmy’s Kitchen. This was the first Chinese restaurant that I had visited about 50 years ago, a class 3 student. Obviously I do not remember much of my culinary experience, but the visit is etched deep into my memory. This was my first visit to the Jodhpur Park outlet. Small place with cozy seating and good service. No alcohol served here. The food was good but not exceptional. Pork dishes are their signature so we had the chilly pork roast. We had the special fried rice along with it - this had fried wontons, pork, shrimps and egg. The bill came upto INR 700 per person I come here more for nostalgia than...
