I really did not get the opportunity to post a detailed review earlier hence, I am contributing a little insights for the ones looking into this place. Let me start with the arrival, I really appreciate the valet service, prompt, courteous and welcoming. The check-in desk: This can be better, I personally would not prefer someone at the desk telling me to "stand on the side" and ask for details as if it as an obnoxious uninvited attempt from me trying to get in the restaurant. I would rather prefer the restaurant to state "prior reservation preferred" in their profile to be welcomed in better manner. Now this happened twice, a weekday and a weekend visit. Getting-in: It hits you, the sheer beauty of it. My sincere appreciation to the promoters, you nailed it! The ambience is just amazing, the look and feel of the place is amazing. However, I am sure there is more that can be done about the enclosed airconditioned area. I am sure they must have something in their mind. The menu, food and service: A little disappointed on the availability, no cold brews available even being in the menu. Although, during the first visit, the gentleman who was serving our table was brilliant, he was careful about my preference and referred to the apt choice of beverage, he ensured he gets it right on the first try. Even the attentiveness despite a full house is highly appreciated and commendable. He made my first visit perfect in terms of service, made me come again the same week. Second visit, full house, found table with the speaker buzzing right on my ears, made me move my chair which, in turn made the the other guests constantly intruding to hang over the portico, overlooking the lake, the entire privacy went for a toss. Couldn't change the table so had to bear through it. The server this time was unpleasant, in his own world, not interested in looking out or be available. Thankfully a steward was much considerate and attended to us with full enthusiasm, almost saved a star there. Quality of food was much better in the second visit given, it was western cuisine we ordered. We chose Oriental dishes in the first visit which, unfortunately needs a lot of work. Loved the fondue and tacos in the second visit. Beverages were apt in the first, did not like the redbull mocktail.
I will visit again, that I am sure of, I am just hoping they upgrade a little. Keep...
Read moreI went there with Diya Karmakar on 3rd Feb(which was also Saraswati Puja) on her birthday. We had prior reservations through Dineout and we had paid the cover charges too(25rs per person) which I had booked almost a week ago. Just to confirm our reservations we called them 4 times and even though couple of times the call was busy, other times they did not pickup. Later when we arrived at the restaurant ON TIME, traveling from Behala to OG BY THE LAKE. We were asked to stand in a queue (even though we had tables booked but we were okay with it since it was Saraswati Puja). While we were standing in the queue, some guests were clicking pics in some area which was 'restricted apparently' and one of the two hostess asked the guys to move away from afar....but clearly they did not hear her due to the chaos of the queue and music, so the other Hostess (who I believe was the head) commented " Oder banglai bol, English Ora bujhbena " while indicating the group of people wearing ethnics. I do not know what made her comment like that infront of other guests standing in the queue. Finally when it was our turn to get in after standing in the queue (Reminder: We had our tables booked prior), the hostess said that there will be a cover charge of 3k applicable and will not be refunded. We can redeem the amount on our bill and if incase we had some money left we could get food packed for the rest of the amount. 3k for 2 people who do not drink or smoke sounded ridiculous for us. Also I think it is their duty to clearly inform through whatever apps that they are taking table bookings from that there will be cover charges applicable on certain dates. When we asked them why the cover charges are there and why were we not informed prior they said, "Which places don't have cover charges?". I'll tell you which places - THE GOOD ONES! . Overall experience was really bad and we had to get out of there, frankly investing 3k for such service was not something we would have liked to do. This pretty much ruined my friend's birthday, and later we took a cab to a different cafe and the rest of the day turned out so much better. It was our first time in OG BY THE LAKE, can't comment on how the food is or how the rest of the things are, but I do not think I would wanna go back there...
Read moreOG by the lake. Located in Topsia just behind Mirania Gardens, this place is beautifully decorated with lamps inside and outside with a view of Lake and Royal Bengal smiling. With a seating capacity of more than 100 PAX, this place offers a wide range of continental and Indian dishes to choose from. EXCL: Not a place that serves you liquors. You can choose mocktails or milkshakes from the menu to drink. We ordered blueberry, pineapple-ginger, lemon ice tea with "red rose" mocktail and "rolling in a cookie dough" milkshake. With an APC of around 2000 bucks approx. , this place will blow your mind with the variety of dishes put in front of you in a selective yet elegant manner. Dishes that we ordered are mentioned below. Creamy Harissa Chicken. Grilled Paneer. Chicken and celery dumplings. Crystal dumplings. Gunpowder chicken skewers. Potato harra. Watermelon and feta salad. Ceaser salad. Loaded fries. Mexican Tacos. Lemon Chicken. Chilli plum babycorn. Biscoff Cheesecake. Tres leche. Chocolate bomb. Pesto roasted pizza. The amount of dishes that we ordered can surely make up their own menu. 😂 Everything was spot on, but the actual OG's were, Creamy Harissa chicken, pesto pizza, gunpowder skewers, watermelon and feta salad, Lemon chicken and all of the above desserts were stunners. Special mention to our two captains, "Sourav" and "Shantanu" for assisting and providing us with exemplary service and kind hospitality for those two hours. From recommending us to beautiful dishes to helping us with the flavours, this is how your service guy should be. Absolutely delightful.
Would highly recommend everyone to visit and enjoy some memorable time with your loved ones.
Note: This review could have been five stars, but the amoumt of time we had to wait outside was pathetic. To mention, there were tables empty. The restaurant just need to look out for a better receptionist or host/hostess.
