We booked this place when I read about this place in an article, the old world charm of restoring a old property and currently refurbished made me go for it ||I booked for 7 nights with my family through Agoda for INR 3500 per room, we had 2 rooms. ||Arrival experience was great, room was available as soon as we reached around 1 pm IST. As I mentioned it’s a small property restored, rooms are small and have a vintage feel, rooms have colour themes so our was Charcoal and Veredian (green) the first impression was quite positive but post that I don’t have anything good to say. Also our room sizes were different. Charcoal was bigger than the other room veredian. But Veredian had a small balcony which charcoal didn’t. Our room included breakfast, and they have a café which they run on the lower level which is usually busy, despite that the first evening we ordered tea and it took 45 mins for Masala chai and it came literally room temperature. ||After that it was a daily story for next 7 days, may be because I come from a fast paced city were time is more valuable than money it was really frustrating to see the laid back attitude and slow pace of service from staff. To handle this better I decided to place the breakfast order the earlier night for next day morning so no one is inconvenienced and even they have time to manage their orders. I gave my bf cards at the reception at night for next day morning for 0930 am breakfast in room, the reception person confirmed it will be taken care off. To my disappointment even at 10 am next day morning no tea no breakfast. When I went down to inquire, the only person who was managing the desk had no IDEA we had breakfast orders. He said he will arrange it now, and apparently the night person didn’t inform them the morning staff. The breakfast was than bought in next 20 mins. They have a menu from which you could choose One juice, one beverage ( tea, coffee, hot chocolate) main course (have enough vegetarian and non-vegetarian option) and a side order. Portion wise its good per person food quality is also good. But yet again the masala chai was room temperature. ||The next day morning we decided to sit in the café on the lower level and take our breakfast hoping it will speed up the service when they see guest in front of them but unfortunately the servers once take the order and they just disappear. I think they have same staff for reception and café because we had to call a server everything by going to the reception to get their attention. Plus though the tea was hot enough it took them 45 mins for an omlette order. Well the entire week we stayed service specially from f&b was pathetic. No empathy and no attention to detail. At night I have asked them for refilling water bottles which they keep in rooms and that too has taken atleast 20 mins for someone to come. We either ate out entire week or got a take away but didn’t dine in the hotel because of their speed of service. ||Wifi in room is weak and doesn’t exist at night time, Hot water in shower in Veredian one of my room was a constant issue, the moment u start the water you do get hot water, in 30 seconds its gone. So I struggled with my showers too, I would like to though put a word for the housekeeping team. They cleaned the room well and did acknowledge the guest privacy and preference. ||Location wise its an hr away from the airport, Uber costed me 1150 INR for a 5 seater van ( we were a family travelling with luggage) but the property is based in mid of city. Nothing is too far. ||Overall a cute looking property from outside with pathetic service and attention to detail. They just dont care which is unfortunate ! In this price you might be able to find a lot of better properties around Kolkata, I will not recommend this place. ||I would like to though mention the owner of the property suggested me good baker for a birthday cake, which turned out to be a good experience. Really...

I think the biggest turn-off for me was the location and how clogged it was. I understand it was due to the lack of space of the cafe and the small building it inhabits, however, during Puja with such an upsurge of the crowd, the balcony was also closed for sitting. This made the already scarcely available spaces fight for more.

Nonetheless, the atmosphere was very general, with no music per se. The walls were however very well made, with beautiful decors. The service and behaviour of the staff was very good as well. The service is the sole reason why I have marked it 4 out of 5 stars and not 3.

Coming to the food, Fish and Chips - 5/5 (anyone and everyone should try this mouthful of a starter. The Bhetki is very well made and the dip made both the fries and the Fish taste 10 times better)

Con Pollo Pizza - 5/5 (as much as I have heard from other acquaintances and as of what I experienced a few days ago, if you are confused as to what to order here, the pizza options will probably be the safest. Amazing in taste. Both the chicken and the mushrooms were perfectly cooked)

Chicken Lasagne - 2.5/5 (I was very disappointed with the lasagna. The pasta sheets were well made and the cheese seemed adequate, however, being a chicken lasagna, the chicken seemed to be a lot lesser than what I have had in other places. What turned out to be the biggest ick for me however, was the usage of veggies and corn inside the lasagna, which by no means seemed to compliment the pasta)

Before Sunrise (Cocktail) - 5/5 (this was a perfect recommendation by the person catering us that day, and boy was it delightful. Coupled with the bites of chicken in pickel sauce, this was an absolute mouthful)

Peach Ice Tea - 5/5 (one of my favourite and go to drinks. The taste of the peach was perfectly dominating, and the tea was not bitter which is often my biggest complaint. Order this with eyes closed if you are unsure about your drinks!)

All in all, it was a great experience and I would love to pay...

A very family friendly place with amazing ambience. I took my parents for a splendid dinner. We ordered Cheese Fondue (IT WAS AMAZING) as appetisers, which ended with a fight over the last spoon and lick of the cheese. Super Delicious! For Main Course we order Grilled Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Bangkok Style Thai Chicken Curry(Red Curry) and Rosti (Swiss Potato Rosti stuffed with Creamy Leeks, Mushrooms & Asparagus in Creamy Paprika Sauce served with Garlic Spinach). ALL OF THEM WERE SUPERB 👌🏻. Being a hard-core non vegetarian, I would have never imagined loving a vegetarian dish like Rosti. It was SO good. Its a must try if you are reading this. I'll probably go back and have it again very soon. We also tried three really nice mocktails. Courtyards in Calcutta , Kiwi Salsa and the starry night. All were wonderfully recommended by our server. In the end, we had the Sizzling Brownie. I must conclude with a major point :- There are a lot of negative reviews on Zomato about this restaurant , which also spoke about pathetic service. With my visit today, despite of having a packed restaurant, the SERVICE was VERY GOOD. A shoutout to the entire service staff and chefs of The Corner Courtyard for serving Amazing food on time, efficiently and behaving with a very nice, approachable and humble attitude. Special mention must be given to SURESH for his great recommendations and constantly being extra nice in helping us choose when we were confused. Thank you TCC, It was a great night and I would definitely recommend everyone to pay a visit here.

Note: I went to have food here and did not stay. So this review will be for the cafe part only. I hadn't heard of this place before and didn't have much expectations. With cafes and restaurants spouting up in every corner of the city, The Corner Courtyard had to be something different to make an impression. And it did. Located near Hazra crossing, the cafe is about 6-7 minutes walk from the Jatin Das Metro station. The walk is a pleasant one with the old British -era architecture visible often and with enough trees to give you shade. The cafe is based on the ground floor of an old British-era building. The place is quiet and you can feel the nostalgia once you enter. The only problem is that they have a Hookah bar too and the smell really is pronounced in the reception area. But once you get into the cafe, the odor is gone thankfully and you're greeted by calm music(no loud ones thank God), nostalgic decorations and super comfort chairs. There's a washroom too and it was clean when I visited. The food is downright awesome. The quantity is perfect and the taste leaves you wanting for more. You have to try there lemon garlic fish, it's just great. What's not so great is the price and they charged almost double for a can of ginger ale, though they gave it in a can with the MRP printed on it. Overall great food, great ambiance and great location. Only the price is on the higher side. There's also rooms available here if you want to live for a few days.
