WhatsUp Cafe — Restaurant in Kolkata

Wanted to visit this place for a long time, and finally a few days back we did it. On a cloudy afternoon, we visited the rooftop cafe and took hold of a table for 4. Though we wanted to try the Jacuzzi one, we weren't able to.

Anyway, since we went to celebrate our friend's birthday, they plated our cake, lighted the candles and even played a "Happy Birthday" song for her.

Once done with the celebration, we ordered few mocktails, followed by 2 starters and 2 main courses.

Drinks - Fresh Lime Soda Blue Lagoon Virgin Mojito Kit Kat Shake

The 3 mocktails were quite refreshing. The Kit Kat Shake, on the other hand, was really tasty. It literally felt like eating a KitKat.

Starters - Chicken Banjara Kebab Cajun Spiced Chicken

Both the starters were mouthwatering. The Kebab was well marinated and well cooked, and the chutney provided with it enhanced its taste. The Cajun Spiced Chicken was the best of the lot, and me and my friends we all seriously loved it. Surely the various spices were well blended which made the dish delectable. It contained some 12 small pieces and is a totally recommended dish.

Main Course - *Minced Chicken Lasagna What's Up Desi Pizza

The Lasagna contained an adequate amount of chicken and it was baked to perfection, but I must say the amount of lasagna they serve is really less when compared to the price. The pizza, however, was disappointing. It was no pizza, it was basically served as 4 wraps with a filling of cheese, bell peppers and small pieces of spicy tandoori chicken, with a salad that had cabbage, olives, tomatoes and lots of mayonnaise.

Besides this what disappointed us more was the service, as it was not only slow but also weirdly done, for we received half of the starter in the beginning and the other half right...

We visited this cafe recently, and unfortunately, the experience left a lot to be desired. On a positive note, the ambience was nice, and the staff were polite and humane in their approach, trying their best to address the situation.

However, the issues started with the food. While the crispy fried chicken was acceptable, the fish fingers with fries were highly disappointing. The fish had a strong, unpleasant odor and a sour aftertaste, which led us to suspect it was not fresh. When we brought this to the staff's attention, they promptly informed the chef. Unfortunately, this led to an encounter that was even more upsetting.

The chef, instead of addressing our concerns professionally, was confrontational and dismissive. He refused to consider our feedback, accused us of ordering the wrong dish, and went as far as instructing the staff not to serve us further. This behavior was shocking and entirely contrary to the principles of hospitality, where customer satisfaction should be the top priority.

We’ve been to this cafe before and never faced such issues with the food, so this incident was deeply disappointing. While the staff made an effort to handle the situation, the damage was already done.

Regrettably, this experience has led us to decide not to return to this cafe. Food quality can sometimes falter, but poor customer service and unnecessary accusations are...

I generally don't post bad reviews since being a high rated reviewer I don't want to spoil the image of a place, but this the first time I am forced to write a negative review. When you enter this place there is a female receptionist who behaviour is extremely toxic. She literally behaved with me like as if she is an uneducated Street lady. Extremely poor choice of words, her attitude is like the Queen of England. Instead of greeting us warmly she showed a feeling of disgust as I had quite a few questions regarding the place. However there is a guy receptionist who at least co-operated. My strong advice would be give some ethical lessons to the female receptionist. That is not how you behave with a Customer. I don't want to review this place anymore as I am never going there again. Also advice all of you reading this review, in case you go to this place and she mis behaves and shows attitude to you, please report it to me and I will inform the Cafe Manager to take appropriate action.

Upon saying this, the waiters made us comfortable, the ambience is decent, food is a bit overpriced but it's tasty. However my whole mood and experience got wasted by the behaviour we got at the entry reception. I wanted to exit, but i had guests with me so we decided to enter, else I would have never entered the place to begin with.
