Disappointing return experience for us.
We had previously dined at Irish Cafe about a year ago and we absolutely enjoyed the food and the ambience. However, most things fell short this time around for us.
We were sat at the annex seating area which was fine by us, however, it was not fitted with any insect controls. We were plagued by a single fly throughout our meal which was a nuisance. Furthermore, towards the end of the meal, we had a spider-bug(?) Crawl up into one of our hijabs which nearly traumatised us.
The portion size for the price is less this time around than last year. We remember having plenty of Wedges per order of burgers which is now reduced to a couple of Wedges per order. The food overall, was a let down. Garlic bread- taste wise-good. The portion was 5 slices :) Veg Baked nachos- there was no baking involved in that whatsoever. It was basically doritos topped with dressing and paneer. We still thought that it was okay. Loaded potatoes- nightmare. The potatoes were not fully done, they seemed to have been almost boiled (?). They all had a metallic taste which was so overwhelming to ignore and we couldn't finish it even for the sake of it. Chicken lasagna- decent. Couldn't really find any lasagna sheets (?) It seemed like a layering of meat filling, and cheese layers. Not a fan of the filling. Didn't taste like the regular lasagna, perhaps because of the attempted indian twist to the taste. Half and half pizza- BBQ chicken and sicilia. It was the only thing besides the garlic bread that was fairly enjoyable. Roasted chicken burgers- the chicken felt dry, the sauces were giving mild metallic taste, and was overall very mid to underwhelming. The Wedges that came along with it could be counted by hand unlike when we visited last year. Peach mojito- metallic taste again and the syrup was so overpowering that it tasted like sugar water and we couldnt drink more than a few sips. Lime mojito- only other savior to wash everything down Cold milo- decent.
We had chosen to revisit Irish Cafe for a special occasion due to our good experience last time but left highly disappointed this time around and will not be visiting again especially given that the food is not exactly cheap and the portion size is strictly...

Read moreCharming atmosphere! While wandering through Madurai, we chanced upon The Irish Café Restaurant, a quaint little place with a cozy atmosphere that's ideal for lounging around and having a laid-back chat. The ambience and layout were warm and welcoming, so were delighted to visit the cafe on our food crawl.
The one great disappointment was the service. It appeared that the personnel focused more on the regular customers or larger groups. Although we ordered panna cotta and Calamari, we were told that they weren't an option. However, to our surprise, Calamari was served at next tables.
Although the location fares well on atmosphere, the uneven service and food availability problems made our experience less than fulfilling. There is certainly potential here, but a few tweaks on the customer service and food clarity on menu possibly could...
