Well we visited Kolhapur this week, so thought of exploring the best non-veg restaurant in the locality.
Dehaati was rated 4.3, so we thought of trying out this restaurant on 22nd Feb 2020
The restaurant is owned and run by Amar Bagi, who has opened three Restaurants in a row ( Tandoor, Dum and Dehaati) all three under same premises.
From look and feel the restaurant looks good; but when it comes to food it is below average.
They market Dehaati as famous for Kolhapuri Thali‘s. But they lack the basic taste of Kolhapur Non Veg recipe.
We ordered Mutton Fry thali and Chicken Fry thali, the mutton thali was lacking the mutton (mass) only bones with less mass.
The jwari bhakri was not pure Jwari Bhakri, lots of wheat in it; on top of it it was not at all soft. When asked the waiter on the quality of Bhakri; he said it is cooked on Gas and not chullah so it tends to become hard.
The Pandhra rassa was just tasting like Dalchini Pani (Cinnamon). The tambda rassa was also very basic, only tasted like masala pani.
The rice (pulav) was very basic.
The kheema was pathetic. Talking about the Chicken fry thaali, the chicken fry was very basic, and the egg masala was very poor. You can only eat egg out of it and ignore the thick curry.
The mutton fry thali costed us Rs.410/- while chicken Fry costed Rs.380/-.
Dehaati is charging premium prices for below average food just because their seating and ambience is good.
I would request Amar Bagi to visit Mumbai and explore better Mutton Bhakri and Chicken Bhakri.
Also, i would request the owner to explore Kolhapur a bit more and then add changes to the Recipe to meet the authentic Kolhapuri Tambda...

I recently dined at Dehaati Restaurant in Kolhapur, and I must say that my experience left much to be desired.
Pros:
Ambiance: The restaurant does have a somewhat rustic and traditional ambiance that might appeal to some diners looking for an authentic rural experience. Cons:
Service: The service at Dehaati was exceptionally slow and inefficient. It took an inordinate amount of time for our food to arrive, and the staff appeared disorganized.
Food Quality: Unfortunately, the quality of the food did not match the hype. The dishes lacked the authentic flavors and finesse one would expect from a restaurant claiming to offer rural cuisine.
Hygiene Concerns: I had concerns about the cleanliness and hygiene of the restaurant. The dining area and restrooms could use significant improvement in terms of cleanliness.
Overpriced: Considering the quality of the food and service, the prices were relatively high. It felt like we were paying a premium for an experience that did not live up to expectations.
In summary, my visit to Dehaati Restaurant in Kolhapur was less than satisfying. Slow service, disappointing food quality, and concerns about hygiene left a lot to be desired. I would caution potential diners to temper their expectations when considering...
Read moreAlright, the taste is better but certainly not worth the price. You go there once only to find out that it is over-hyped. At ₹390+GST for chicken masala thali you get a small bowl of egg masala, a medium portion of chicken masala with bone-in chicken - which for me was more bones than meat, two chapatis/ bhakaris, pandhara rassa, tambada rassa, a tiny plate of pulao and generous kanda with only a hint of dahi. Well, and a bottle of 500 ml water. Apart from the rassas, everything else is charged extra if you want more.
The service is OK. As soon as you order they place an empty thali, an empty glass for water, 500 ml bottled water and an empty black melamine bowl (probably to throw bones?) Then serve the dahi kanda and two steel bowls with tambada and pandhara rassa and wait for a while. You are supposed to have the rassas as soup. Then they bring the egg masala and chicken masala portions and place them in your thali. Then comes hot chapati or bhakari. Then they will ask you if you need more chapati/ bhakari - which will be charged extra of course. Then a small plate of pulao is served and then they are done and hopefully you are done too.
There is a parking space for a limited number of cars, which is also shared by other food joints. So on a mildly busy day, you will certainly not find a car parking spot. There is ample two-wheeler...
