Hotel Opal — Restaurant in Maharashtra

I had the opportunity to stay at Hotel Opel, located conveniently near the heart of the city and just a short drive from the famous Mahalaxmi Temple. Here’s a detailed review based on my experience:

🛏️ Rooms & Comfort – 4.5/5

The rooms were spacious, clean, and well-maintained. The bedding was comfortable, and the interiors had a modern touch with ample lighting and functional furniture. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and the washrooms were hygienic with 24/7 hot water. For both solo and family travellers, the room standards were more than satisfactory.

🍽️ Dining Experience – 4/5

The in-house restaurant served a mix of Indian, Chinese, and local Maharashtrian cuisine. The breakfast buffet had good variety – from poha and upma to toast and tea. I particularly enjoyed their Kolhapuri thali, which was flavorful and authentic. Room service was prompt, and the staff was courteous.

One of the highlights of my stay was the cleanliness. The common areas, corridors, and rooms were all well-kept. Housekeeping staff did a great job and were responsive to requests.

The front desk staff were polite and professional. Check-in and check-out were smooth. They were also helpful in arranging local transport and offering guidance on nearby attractions. Some communication delays happened during peak hours, but nothing major.

Situated on Pune-Bangalore Highway (NH-4), Hotel Opel is easily accessible. It’s close to key landmarks like Rankala Lake, New Palace, and Mahalaxmi Temple. Also ideal for those travelling onwards toward Goa or Pune.

The hotel offers ample parking, free Wi-Fi, and conference facilities. However, a fitness center or recreational area could be added to enhance the experience further.

Giving 1 star to hotel Opal as we could not go below that. Otherwise this hotel is not worth of single star now. Visited last weekend with family for dinner and we came to sheer disappointment . The quality of food has been completely deteriorated. It seems they have invested huge money into hotel's renovation but no attention given upon quality of food, variety of cuisines, hospitality, etiquette of servants.

Servants are so rude. They don't have manners to talk with visitors properly. We had to wait for them to pour the water into our glasses in spite of requesting twice. and he was standing idle in the corner. Also, they have denied to serve finger bowl at the end, giving reason of place being overcrowded!! I think Opal management should conduct etiquette and hospitality sessions for servants.

Now coming to the food, We had to order Pandhra Rassa and tamda Rassa separately which comes in small bowls, whereas in all other hotels Rassas (which is specialty of Kolhapur) served unlimited without any charge. we ordered Mutton Masala and it had more bones than meat. These people are just ruining the name of Kolhapur .we tried starters, Paneer chilly in which Paneer was stale. Chicken chilly was Ok.

All in all, this place has been hyped for years. Yes, I used to recommend hotel Opal to new people coming in town once upon a time, as it was really a good value meal then. Now, the quality of restaurant has been fallen due to mismanagement and arrogance. We asked for feedback book to Manager but he behaved kind of arrogant. It's urge request to visitors please do not waste your money. There are so many Good options available in town which can serve you really good Kolhapuri thalis and can also exhibit Kolhapuri...
