I recently visited Tulsi Restaurant near the Ellora Caves during a sightseeing trip, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. While the location is convenient for travelers looking to grab a quick bite before or after exploring the caves, the overall quality of food and service was disappointing, which is why I’m giving it a 2-star rating.
The ambiance was basic, which I didn’t mind, but the cleanliness was not up to the mark. Tables weren’t wiped properly, and the floor looked like it hadn’t been swept in a while. This set a negative tone right from the beginning.
We ordered a simple vegetarian thali and some tea. The food tasted very bland, and the vegetables served lacked freshness. The chapatis were dry and rubbery, and the dal was too watery. It seemed like the food had been sitting out for a while. Even the tea was below average—more like flavored hot water than proper chai.
The service was slow and disorganized. It took a long time to get our order, despite the restaurant not being very crowded. The staff seemed inattentive and indifferent, which made the experience feel even less welcoming.
The only redeeming factor is the restaurant’s proximity to the caves and the availability of parking space. But beyond that, I wouldn’t recommend this place unless you’re in a hurry and have no other option.
With better hygiene, tastier food, and improved service, Tulsi could become a decent pit stop. But as of now, it...

I had one of the most disappointing and unhygienic dining experiences at Tulsi Family Restaurant.
I went there with my family around 9:30 pm. From the outside, the place looked promising and we thought it would be a good choice for dinner. Sadly, what we experienced inside was the complete opposite.
To my shock, while eating I actually found a cockroach in my Veg Kolhapuri. That alone was enough to ruin the evening. But what made it worse was the reaction from the staff. The waiters were unprofessional and didn’t take the matter seriously at all. Even the owner brushed it off with just a casual “sorry”, showing no genuine concern about hygiene or food safety.
Other things we noticed only added to the disappointment:
Tables were oily and uncleared, with no basic cleanliness.
The place may have had a welcoming atmosphere at first, but inside there were spider webs everywhere, which was very off-putting.
A peek into the kitchen revealed poor hygiene, and the toilets were in such bad condition that you’d avoid them unless absolutely necessary.
⚠️ Overall, this restaurant completely lacks cleanliness, hygiene, and professionalism. If you care about safe food and a healthy environment for your family, I would strongly recommend...
Read moreIt is a medium sized restaurant on the busy main road to Ellora caves. It has a decent parking lot that can accomodate few buses, cars and bikes. The rest rooms are in the back, had a long queue, dark toilets and broken pathway. The dining area is large with adequate ventilation but it is crowded most of the time. Order is taken in a hurry, many items are missed out and it was a long delay to be served. I had Andhra meals that had partially cooked rice, flavorless dal, ground cabbage, pickle and watery buttermilk. It did not raise any good flavours and was very expensive. My family had fried rice which was too oily and took ages to reach. The supplied water was not good. Even the mineral water cans were frozen and could not be had on a summer afternoon. You can try this place only if you are extremely hungry and cannot wait for the long drive to...
