1701 Gastropub — Restaurant in Mumbai

This place is located at a prime location next to Kala Niketan and is very easy to spot coz of the huge font. Once you get in, you will be bowled over by how cast it is and all vegetarians will be super happy as it is Asia's largest pure veg gastropub!

It has 3 sections: Outdoors Indoors A floor above which has karaoke and sheesha

FOOD -

1. CHANA JOR GARAM : This chat was mouth watering and tangy and had the right mix of flavours. But have it quickly, else it will become soggy. 👍

2. ROOMALI CHEESE PAPAD : This has khakhra like consistency and is in the shape of a bowl topped with tomatoes and cheese and red chilli powder. Tasted decent. 👍

3. DESI DAL VADA FALAFEL PLATTER : This was so huge, was getting to difficult to capture in a single camera shot. It had falafels, 3 types of hummus and pita bread. Tasted very nice! 👌💕

4. PANI PURI SHOTS : This has 2 variants, normal shots and those same shots mixed with vodka. You can choose which to order. I prefer the normal one as it has a burst of flavours. The vodka one tastes bitter which does not go down well with the Puris. The presentation is spot on! 👌💕

5. NAANLETTS BASKET : This has various flavours of Naans served with green chutney. It has butter garlic naan, cheese stuffed masala naan. Loved it! 👌💕

6. TANDOORI BATATA BHARWA : This was the star! My most favourite amongst the lot.. it has tandoori aloo stuffed with rich filling of dry fruits but not making is sweet and tasted amazing! 👌💕

7. GOD FATHER BURGER : This is a larger than life size of burger and it is impossible to have the complete thing in one go. Difficult to pick it up as well. You need to get this cut into several pieces to be able to have it. Also, the patty is good, but the bread is too thick. The patty has Mexican flavours. The fries served along with it were fresh and crispy! 👌

8. TEX MEX SIZZLER : This was a total Mexican flavour sizzler with the patty made of beans and potatoes and was a tad bit bland for my liking the rice and the stir fried veggies were really tasty. On the whole, it was okayish.

9. AFGHANI PANEER : This was fabulous! Tasted so rich, creamy and flavorful. The paneer was super fresh and was melting in the mouth. Must must order. 👌💕

10. VEG DUM HANDI : This had a lot of veggies and tasted nice. It wasn't spicy though. It had french beans, peas, cauliflower predominantly.

11. MAGGI NOODLES SPRING ROLL : Served in a similar fashion like Pani Puri Shots. This had Maggi stuffed inside the rolls which were deep fried. Tasted very nice! 👌

12. BROWNIE WHITE CHOCOLATE DOME : This is sizzling Brownie with vanilla ice cream. The brownie was big, soft and fresh. This was super duper amazinggg and tasty! My all time favourite! 👌💕

13. WHISKEY SOUR : This was served without egg being a pure veg restaurant and had red chilli punch in it. You will feel that spicy hit after taking the sip. It is very strong as well. Loved it! 👌💕

14. LOVE TO ME : This is a white rum based drink and was served with enormous amount of crushed ice. Tasted nice! 👌

15. LITCHI based MOCKTAIL : Forgot the name, but this tasted so good! It had 2 big litchis and tasted really nice! Drank this more than water! 👌

New place alert for Vegetarians !!! Located near Options Mall in Juhu; 1701 Gastropub is a pure VEGETARIAN and also the largest vegetarian gastropub in Asia with a current seating capacity of 2500. The building looks dull from outside but inside is a complete different story. The ambience is totally nice with live screening, crazy music and nice lights as well as comfortable sofa seating. The space is divided into three sections and people can reserve the areas to host parties too. Gastropub offers a wide variety of Italian, Chinese, Continental, Finger-Food and Street Food as well as some great drinks. The place is also kids friendly and valet parking is available.

Coming to the food items which we tried:

CHAKANA MENU Cheesling Bhel – Crispy cheeseling were mixed with bhel which had onion,s tomatoes, coriander topped with chaat masala sev and lemon juice.

Mexicain Fries – Another crispy item where French fries were served with Mexican beans and tomatilla salsa, sour cream and spring onion.

CHARCOAL GRILL Tandoori Batata Bharwa Version 2.0 – this is their version on tandoor roasted aloo with herb cream and cheese sauce. Yum Yum !!

CONTI. NIBBLES Mace Cornetto – Cornetto shaped cones were made with corn tortillas filled with chest Mexican beans and chipotle ketchup

Over Loaded Nachos – Crispy fried corn tortilla chips were served topped with Mexican beans and tomatillo salsa as well as sour cream

Desi Dal Wada Falafel Platter – A platter comprising of 3 hummus i.e. chick pea hummus, corn hummus and green pesto hummus served with fattoush salad and baby falafel pockets

INDO. NIBBLES Pani Puri Shots - masala Pani Puri are served with flavoured water shots

Idli 65 – Mini idlis were fried and tossed with indian masala

Paneer Chutney Chilli Kebab – Paneer chunks were stuffed with chilli chutney and were pan fried; served with tangy red sauce.

INDO CHINESE NIBBLES Lotus Stem and WaterChestnut – hunan stylejava lotus and water chestnuts were tossed with burnt garlic and chilli sauce.

Maggi Noodles Spring Rolls – a maggi masala noodle spring rolls dipped in sweet chilli sauce served in shots glasses.

Vegetable Lolly Pop - vegetables on the lollipop in Sichuan sauce

MAINS CHINESE Nasi Goreng – Indinesian style fried rice prepared with fried cracker

INDIAN STAPLES: Exotic Veg Biryani – Saffron flavoured long grain rice with exotic vegetables latered with aromatic gravy in pressure cooker

DESSERTS: Brownie in White Chocolate Dome – the standard dish where brownie topped with vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce

MOCKTAILS: Ronella – a super refreshing mocktail comprising of fresh orange juice, vanilla syrup and fresh pomegranate juice.

FREAKSHAKE: Chocolate & Caramel Butter Scotch Cone Shake – a nice shake which had chocolate ice cream, chocolate cake, milk, whipped cream with caramel nuts and butter scotch cone.

Overall, it was a good experience. The appetizers lived upto the expectations while the mains need some improvements. The service was nice and staff was attentive as well as knowledgeable for the food served. It’s a nice place to hang out with friends and family.

1701 Gastropub.

Starting with the USP of this place. It is World's largest Vegetarian restaurant. Yes that's true !

So I went here last night with a couple of blogger friends. So basically a Punjabi girl having ONLY Veg food is a rare sight to see but yes that was true. I wanted to explore the World's biggest Veg hotel to see what it has to offer me.

So the place is definitely massive. It's huge. There are various seating sections like indoor and outdoor ones. We were seated indoor. There's an old style disco ball with rotational lights. Very peppy bollywood numbers playing. There was also a live singer yesterday but he ideally should be given a mic and some partners to play drums to add liveness to his music. It is said to be city's most dazzling gastrobar. You can visit to entice and relax and unwind after a long day for some sheesha and drinks with your friends and have a quintessential night out. There are servers almost around every table. Food service was pretty quick.

It is located in Juhu a little ahead of Juhu Police station.

So there were nearly 8 of us trying out different dishes and drinks.

What I Drank?

CHOCOLATE MILKSHAKE

Lacked taste of chocolate. Was not really sweet. However the presentation deserves full points. And more because they served a cornetto waffle cone and some butterscotch ice cream along.

KIWI MILKSHAKE The colour of this shake felt way too artificial. Neon greenish which was not appealing to my eyes. Couldn't dare to have a sip more of it. What I Ate?

PANI PURI SHOTS

The presentation of this is amazing. Somewhat 8 puris with 3 different chutneys in shot glasses of 2 each. This is a must try.

MASALA KHAARI

Never had a khaari as nice as this. Chai with khaari is common. But having khaari as an appetiser is something good. So this had veggies and melted cheese which tasted delicious. Making the ordinary into extraordinary.

CHEESY NAAN

Cheese is always welcome. And bigger the quantity, warmer is the welcome. So we ordered for Naanlette's which is basically 3 different types of Naans. Couldn't decide which was the best so I vote for all 3. Highly recommended dish.

PANEER SICILIANA BRUCHETTA

This didn't impress me as much as the other starters did. Can be skipped.

OVER LOADED NACHOS

They turned soggy a little too fast. Couldn't enjoy them much. They were actually very over loaded I can say.

GILAFI SEEKH KEBAB

This was again good. On the sweet side. So gilafi kebabs are something I always had non vegetarian. This is the first time I tried Veg Gilafi and liked it.

DESI CHINESE FRIED RICE

This was not really upto my expectation. The rice tasted much like a very local restaurant and not the name that 1701 holds. Need massive improvement here.

One more thing that disappointed me ( BIGTIME) was that there were no desserts available that night.

In short, its a good place to chill with friends sometimes for sheesha...
