Wine Review: Christian Moreau Chablis 2016
It is very rare to find a Christian Moreau Chablis in India, and it was nice to see this wine on the menu at Le Cirque, Mumbai, and I ordered the same for my dinner.
Christian Moreau is one of the oldest and most respected domains in Chablis. Wine has fruit notes like apple, green apple, pear etc. A very beautiful and amazing Chablis wine.
Food Review: A great wine needs great food. That’s where the restaurant failed badly, and food was below average.
Initially their regular Chef prepared a dish based on lobster, and probably lobster was stale and the food was very bad which is not expected from such a restaurant. Next a prawn based dish which was completely bad as well. Finally I had a discussion with the restaurant manager and has concluded to change the regular Chef to another Chef Kamlesh to take over the dishes for dinner. Kamlesh was comparatively better I felt when he prepared further dishes.
To be frank the restaurant had only me as a customer for the whole evening and it was very empty. Only one more customer came for a very short snacks that evening on another table. I could understand it’s probably because of the bad Chef and lack of fine dining food menu. I used to be a regular customer of the same restaurant Le Cirque in Bangalore which was much better as per my experience.
After discussing with Chef Kamlesh, I ordered smoked Scottish Salmon as starters which was very nice. Followed by Pomfret dish which was quite average. Next, another baked fish and vegetables.
Dessert: The Chef Kamlesh suggested a portion of Crème Brûlée + Tiramisu. Crème Brûlée was nice and tiramisu was average.
Conclusion: To conclude, the overall experience was far below expectations. The restaurant also didn’t had any special dishes like fish roe/caviar or scallops on the menu. Food menu needs a lot of improvements to include fine dining dishes. I could see that “Leela” failing very badly on expectations in Mumbai.
Probably needs a better Chef or Chef needs to...
Read moreOne of the most mesmerising dining I have ever done in my life happens to be at The Le Cirque Signature, Mumbai. The staff especially Mr. Thakur who served me are pretty serious and motivated about giving the diner a very fulfilling fine dining experience. I with my friend Arvin Dias were the restaurant’s first guests after it’s reopening last year and the whole team made us feel very special. Having great city views at corner tables, excellent & knowledgeable staff, distinguished interior and an exceptional wine cellar, everything compliments and adds to the wonderful experience. The food, oh boy is out of this world, beautifully presented and full of delicate flavours. This is supposed to be a franco-italian restaurant and the food justifies the description. The fried calamari I had and the primavera pasta were 2 gem of a dishes, beautifully cooked and well seasoned. One of the most memorable moment was indulging in the most delicious creme brûlée I ever had which after finishing also reveal’s it’s recipe, haha! The menu is designed well having some of the Chef Matteo Fontana’s signatures which I would recommend everyone to try. Absolutely enjoyed the complimentary breads from the restaurant throughout the meal! The chefs inside are definitely an experts of their craft which is clearly evident from the consistent high quality cooking. Le Cirque’s original outpost in NYC was owned by the famed Maccioni family where the rich and famous used to dine. The only problem was they didn’t move forward in time and naturally the decline of an era was inevitable. Credits to the Nair’s of the Leela group who joined hands with Maccioni’s and revamped the Le Cirque opening it’s first Indian outpost in Delhi. From then, everything has gone upwards. The Las Vegas outpost has/had a Michelin star too. The Mumbai one is no less as well. The restaurant is definitely pricey but I think at the end everything comes together because you leave with a big smile on...
