Mani’s Lunch Home in Chembur is a much-loved spot for authentic South Indian vegetarian food, known for its homely flavors and pocket-friendly prices. Established in 1937, this eatery has built a loyal following over the years, thanks to its hearty meals and simple, no-frills atmosphere.
The highlight here is the traditional South Indian thali, which usually includes rice, sambar, rasam, curd, papad, vegetable curries, buttermilk, and a sweet dish like payasam. The food is served hot, fresh, and in generous portions, often reminding diners of wholesome home-cooked meals. Another major attraction is the variety of dosas and vadas—rava dosa, neer dosa, medu vada, and pongal are especially popular. Unlimited servings of chutney and sambar add to the value and satisfaction.
Regular visitors praise the consistency of flavors and the comforting, nostalgic quality of the dishes. Many appreciate that the restaurant maintains both quality and affordability, making it a favorite for everyday meals as well as weekend family outings.
On the flip side, some diners do feel that certain items, like adai or sweets, can occasionally fall short of expectations. The place can also get crowded during peak hours, which sometimes affects the service speed.
Despite these minor drawbacks, Mani’s Lunch Home continues to stand out as one of Chembur’s most trusted and loved vegetarian dining options. It combines authenticity, tradition, and simplicity in a way that keeps people coming...
Read moreEeyaks. Sheeee. Don't know who are those people to rate them well that it is 4 * + rating. Pathetic taste, attitude of the staff very arrogant and rude. Not willing to understand the a customer is also a human being and a person should be always helpful and courteous to the other person. First of all the food is typically cheap south Indian style. All the gravy veg are almost sweet. Upon that only the dish you like here is the dal. They serve it again to the customer if the customer needs it. So I asked the person for the same. Instead of providing it, he was rude and told me that since some dal is already in your bowl, finish it. And let me clarify that there was literally there was only almost 2 tea spoons left in the bowl (extremely small bowls). Then after finishing the meal, I washed my hands and since there was no tissue paper on the table had to ask him for the same. This person instead of bringing the tissue box, came with only a single tissue in hand. And we were already 2 people sitting on the table. Common man if you have a restaurant, and if due to some loyal customers of it is doing so well then why don't you have some sense of value and respect towards them. You need to improve for sure on this front and even the quality and taste of the food especially in this only increasing...
Read moreLoved the fresh, aromatic and authentic food. Having spent a year in Chennai, I was on the lookout for a decent south Indian food joint but each that came across was a disappointment. And then on one odd day, a friend decided that Mani's should be our rendezvous point. It was easy to locate with gmaps. This area of Chembur East is greener and better planned.
In a quiet winding lane, we found Mani's on the ground floor of a 2 storey building. Non assuming and already quite busy.
A few families and couples were busy eating and chitchatting over food in the same animated way as one does when the food is to one's liking. That was a good sign.
We took a table in the middle of the small restaurant and ordered Idli plates to test the waters. Food was served within 10 minutes of ordering. Nariyal chutney and sambhar were outstanding. Next were wada and masala dosai, smelling like heaven. All in all, it was fresh and quite affordable.
Since then I have been there with friends and family and every visit has been worth it.
Try to visit as early in the day as possible. 8 AM is a good time. Idli-wada, unlimited meals, ghee utthapa and Mysore pak are must to have items. Do top it off with filter coffee (chai...
