Exceptional food! I love reviews that build gradually towards a conclusion but when I'm this fully sold on the value of a place, I can't help but be emphatic!
Samvene Bagel Cafe occupies a prime location in Malad West. It is smack on Mith Chowky which is infamous for being a crowded junction at the best of times. If you're coming here in your vehicle, there is no question of on-site parking but you should be able to find a slot in one of the bylanes and alleys close to the cafe or on one of the main roads themselves. This is a snug, little place on the upper floor accessed through a flight of a stairs which feels appropriate for a breakfast place in Mumbai given all that I've explored across this city. A large, roomy place always feels like an anomaly in a city that stashes its best away in corners and niches that call for an almost serendipitous discovery, like an "a-ha, well there it is!" moment.
We were here on a Sunday morning so there were about 4 people. It can service about 30 at a time by the looks of it. There are digital and physical menus here. Orders are placed at the counter.
We had the following: Full English Breakfast - Veg All Day Meal - Veg Bagel Margherita Cafe Mocha Hazelnut Latte
The mark of good European food in India is how they do the simple items like the quality of the bread. Everything from the texture of the bagel, the creaminess of the cheese spread, the omelette and even the coffee felt fresh and devoid of artifice.
In all, a simple, unassuming place that gets its main ingredient...
Read moreTook my family to Samvene for dinner today. This place is right at the Mith Chowki Crossroads on Link Road. While there’s no parking space in the immediate vicinity of the restaurant I parked my car on Link Road past Zenith Hospital and it took less than 2 minutes to walk back.
There’s no service currently in the ground floor premise. One has to climb a flight of stairs to the first floor from the main entrance at the ground floor.
The decor is good and family friendly. Nice view of the cross roads as well. The staff is courteous and quick. I ordered at the counter as is required, while the subsequent orders of water and desserts they took at the table.
We ordered Spicy Chicken Wings and Peri Peri wedges to start with, liked both (loved the wedges more than the wings). For mains we had all the meats pizza and meatzza pasta. They also provided accompaniments like garlic oil, chilli oil, chilli flakes and oregano that added to the experience. I liked the pasta more than the pizza. For desserts we had a Chocolava and a brownie sizzler with icecream. The Chocolava was ok but the brownie was to die for.
Over all a very good dining experience. They take some time to serve the food so we had a great conversation going. It’s part of the over all experience and we are looking forward to visiting again for a...
Read moreThe café is quite petite, but it’s charming nonetheless. It’s a great spot for a cozy gathering with friends or family. The ambiance is lovely, with great lighting and a warm, comely interior. The food is delicious, especially the chicken options. I haven’t tried the vegetarian spread, but I’m sure it’s equally good.
The lighting is amazing, especially in the bar corner, where they have a nice setup. The coffee and other beverages are incredibly delicious. I tried the classic cold coffee and the French vanilla, and both were fantastic. The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming.
The café used to be on the first floor, but it’s now on the ground floor, which means it’s a bit smaller. However, if you’re going with a small group, the space won’t be a problem. They also offer good deals on Zomato and Swiggy.
Overall, it’s a cozy café that’s perfect for reading, listening to music, drawing, or working from home.
The only downside is the parking, which is a bit problematic since it’s on the signal and doesn’t offer valet parking. However, there are a few restaurants nearby that provide valet parking. If you absolutely must drive, you can park your car there, negotiate a deal with the valet person, and come back to visit. But I would recommend using public transportation as a...
