The food and drinks at this place are decent overall. But generally, you will get better quantity for the same price at Nischita NXT, all though Nischita's is not a bar. Having said that, this is the only bar offering tawa items like chicken boti and tawa rice. Some of the cons of this place are that it is very small and almost always people are squeezed in next to each other. The chairs are very small too. A few years before Covid, the place had a nasty reputation of people getting food poisoning due to the uncleanliness of the cooking practices, I myself getting bad food poisoning once. One would also see cockroaches constantly running around, which still happens. Lastly, the waiters have a very cavalier attitude and act like as if they are owed a tip every single time one visits the place, even though they never really provide any noteworthy service. The owner below comments on my review asking why do so many people come to this place then, if not for the great ambience and service. Well it is becaue he also owns a wine shop of the same name which supplies alcohol to this bar, thus maintaining the lowest alcohol prices in any bar in this colony and around. This is the real reason people flock to this place, not necessarily the ambience/service quality. I would say I am generous giving a place three stars after it has caused me food poisoning, let the owner think...
Read moreThis place best describes what a dive bar is.
Reasonably priced menu (food and drinks) with all your Indian masaladar items in the food section, and domestic and IMFL to choose from.
The food menu has everything you'd expect at a dive bar. Some of the usual suspects would be the Dal fry, chicken lollipops, masala papad, variations in rotis and naan's, veg and non-veg gravy selection to moisten your choice of bread. A selection of kababs that is cooked over flaming coal and other kheema items deserve a special mention because it just does.
Service is quick and snappy. Food is served hot at your table within a few minutes of placing an order. Complimentary chakna includes salted peanuts. Tables and cutlery are clean as per dive bar standards. The indoor seating is cramped up, you most likely will have to jigsaw your way arround table, chairs and people to reach the loo and on your way back to your seat.
There is a lot of activity at this place post the bedtime of the surrounding wineshops as you can also pickup alcahol over the counter at parcel rates which is priced at about 20-30 Rs...
Read moreThe one star is due to the way they handling it in today's situation. Hygiene level is a big '0'. Nothing is recorded or checked of the customer. No social distancing and no proper masking and gloves for the employees who handle the food and beverage. These things never used to be noticed in the earlier days, which is totally agreeable as the pandemic wasn't there that time. One of the waiters told us that they used to allow people under the shutter during lockdown too, what can one comment on that. Schumania has stood the test of time but now by avoiding all the precautionary methods and SOP, it's loosing all the efforts over the years.
Simple suggestion, avoid the place if one needs to be alive. Secondly those who can't stop going there that's your choice totally. God bless.
