Visited in April Mumbai, India
During our visit to Mumbai, we sought a special dining experience for our parents, hoping to they explore Indian cuisine in a new light through a set menu. Having previously enjoyed Tresind restaurant in Dubai, but our visit in Mumbai were mixed in a rather worse way. Ambience: The interior failed to create a cozy atmosphere, with low ceilings embellished with star-like light bulbs, imparting a somewhat artificial ambiance that contradicted the notion of fine dining. The proximity of the tables gave the impression of a communal gathering rather than an exclusive haute cuisine venue. Despite being informed that children under 12 were not admitted, disruptive noise from neighboring tables, including young children, tainted the dining experience with a more casual tone.
Food: The restaurant offered two set menus, vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Opting for the latter, we requested a milder spice level for one diner, an adjustment which was accommodated. The meal commenced with a flavorful vegetable taco-like appetizer, delightfully awakening the palate with its fresh and crunchy textures. However, subsequent dishes such as the burger-like appetizer lacked balance in flavors, leaving one overwhelmed by the bun component. The ravioli soup stood out for its rich coconut-curry broth and well-constructed ravioli, albeit marred by overly sour beans that disrupted the overall harmony. The duck starter was a crowd-pleaser, impeccably spiced and tender, though the accompaniment of a heavy waffle seemed incongruous for a multi-course meal. Transitioning to more European-inspired appetizers with Indian influences, the menu failed to captivate with offerings like the scallop Wellington, appearing out of place on an Indian-themed menu. The main course featuring crab with omelette and curry, was completely clogged with sauce, its taste was lost, although it is quite an expensive product.
A standout was the signature dish - The spiced khichdi of India, showcasing a harmonious blend of flavors and textures, a testament to their culinary prowess. Soft texture of the grain, curry sauce with different shades of flavors with each spoon, you can discover something new. The sauce itself is smooth without any inclusions. This is their signature dish and it's done well - the strongest of the entire menu. Conversely, desserts lacked the same finesse and creativity, failing to engage beyond simplicity. Our favorite was the coffee candy with a liquid center, it perked us up a bit.
Service: Despite commendable attentiveness and explanations of the dishes by the waitstaff, service was notably lethargic, prolonging the dining experience.
In conclusion: Overall, our dining experience fell short of expectations, drawing comparisons to our memorable visit to the Dubai branch of this establishment. While the visual presentation of the dishes impressed, the taste and complexity of the set menu left much to be desired. Departing from authentic Indian flavors towards a fusion approach, the restaurant sacrificed genuine taste for aesthetic appeal.
Notably, the exorbitant pricing of beverages, wine accompaniment is more expensive than the food set. A glass of local Indian sparkling wine, from 1500-2600, this is not imported, so strange.. Moreover, the extended duration of the set menu, lasting more than 3 hours, contributed to a sense of drawn-out indulgence. While the restaurant showcased culinary artistry and elegance in plating, the deviation from traditional Indian flavors towards fusion lacked the depth and authenticity we anticipated. The inflated pricing and extended dining experience further detracted from an otherwise...
Read moreTRESIND - this place does not need any introduction. From UAE to Kuwait and now at BKC Mumbai. Modern Indian cuisine at its best. Lunch they have the la carte menu plus the Chef's tasting menu. Dinner is all about experiencing and 2 hours Tasting menu. Sunday afternoon - Lunch. Opted for the la carte (Veg and Non Veg) Cocktails amazing.
Skipped the Soup - Starters it was the Guacamole Gilawat (smooth texture) bold flavours. Tortilla Paratha topped with Mashed avocado (Tikki style) chopped with salsa and sour cream. Salsa gave the punch which was needed. Tangy/spicy. Nicely balanced.
Vegan Carpaccio - Compressed watermelon and Litchi placed on crisp puffed bread with tarragon (herb) this gave you the apple wood smoke. Pine nuts and some arugula to get the sharpness and some tarragon chutney. Overall - spicy/sweet. Presentation top notch.
Kebab and Chutney - one of the star dishes of the day. Here the chef has used Portobello steak (Middle East its meat) Rusty in texture. Marinated well. Served with Chimichurri chutney (indianised version - this is made live) One needs to have it with galangal / onions / chutney and a piece of Portobello. Yum.
Non Veg - TANDOORI CHICKEN - Loved the Pineapple Brulee, gave a tangy taste. Sliced pineapple with olive tapenade. 2 pieces of chicken (soft and tender) placed. These were done well with a lovely marination. Spices and herbs (Not over) garnish of edible flower and radish, served with green chutney. Loved the presentation.
Mutton Khari (this is a dish also found in the chef tasting menu) one of the best Nihari gravy i have tasted. Basically It's Khari stuffed with Lamb leg (slow cooked, shredded) had a good balance of masala. Velvety texture and taste of Bone marrow Tari was outstanding. One needs to taste this. Balanced well.
Prawn Benedict - another signature dish presented well. This is all about balance and combination of Tandoori prawns (done well) Bharwan asparagus and Hollandaise foam. Gives you that buttery/lemony taste. Asparagus went well as a combination. Garnish of edible flower and mint.
Mains - One of the best dishes i have tasted. Ask for GOL HATTI (History Behind this dish) this dish is inspired by a place called Gole Hatti at Chandni Chowk (Delhi 6) do try. It's a combination of chickpeas and Spinach made like a thick curry with a couple of potatoes and Onions as a garnish. A bit creamy with subtle spices and masala. Served with Kulcha (we opted for Steamed rice)
Ram Babu Paratha - AGRA well-known dish of Gopal Bazaar. This is stuffed with Onion and papad (one can get the crunchiness) Not oily. Served with condiments like Potato curry sour pumpkin, Curd/tamarind chutney and green chutney. Try it.
Dessert - PALANG TOD, presented well. This is all about rich mawa with pasta (Milk cake crumble) not that sweet. Served with saffron milk and dates and arzo pudding. A couple of small Paan to end the meal. Uploaded the picture for the presentation.
Cocktails - top Notch. Will get back on this later.
Overall - F A...

We tried a 10 course chef's tasting menu with a lava lamp passion fruit mocktail with was really good and a whiskey cocktail which was outstanding as per my friend.
The 1st course was a snack box which had 4 kinds of tiny appetizers .. frozen pani puri shot, pavbhaji bao, deconstructed dahi Kebab and Jamun Tart. Loved all of them. Special mention to the dahi Kebab and Jamun Tart. The tart just pops in your mouth.
Next was the chaat ceviche.. which was outstanding. Small cubes of Avocado, potato, corn and mango with chips in a honey yuzu dressing. Yum. Loved the dressing. The corn gave a lovely flavor. A great amalgamation of flavors and textures.
Next was Malai paneer which was served in a form of panacotta with a gravy in the center. Oh that smooth texture.. so good. The flavors were well balanced.
