Hummus Platter: The Hummus Platter is a standout starter. It features a variety of hummus flavors, each distinctly seasoned, accompanied by an assortment of fresh vegetables, olives, and warm pita bread. The hummus is creamy, rich, and well-balanced, with each variety offering a unique twist—ranging from traditional chickpea to roasted red pepper and garlic-infused versions. The vegetables are fresh and crunchy, providing a perfect contrast to the smoothness of the hummus. This platter is not only visually appealing but also a flavorful introduction to the meal.
Chicken Pasta Salad: For a lighter main course, the Chicken Pasta Salad is an excellent choice. This dish combines tender, juicy chicken pieces with perfectly cooked pasta, tossed in a vibrant, herb-infused dressing. Fresh vegetables like cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, and leafy greens add a refreshing crunch and a burst of color to the dish. The salad is well-seasoned, with the herbs and dressing complementing the natural flavors of the chicken and vegetables. It's a balanced, satisfying dish that showcases the cafe's attention to detail and commitment to quality ingredients.
Nutella Brownie Freak Shake: No visit to Communion Cafe would be complete without indulging in their Nutella Brownie Freak Shake. This decadent dessert is a treat for both the eyes and the palate. The shake is rich and creamy, with the luscious flavor of Nutella perfectly blended into the milkshake base. Topped with a generous serving of whipped cream, a fudgy brownie, and drizzles of chocolate syrup, it is a visual and gustatory delight. Read moreIt's an amazing place. No place like this in New Bombay.
First, the food. I have a special weakness for places which serve good bread-and-eggs breakfasts at breakfast time. This one opens at eight every day, serves lovely akuri, omelettes, scrambled eggs, Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine, with correctly toasted sourdough slices and three choices of butter. And it's one of the VERY FEW places which, in your insistence, can serve good, moist, creamy, slightly runny akuri or scrambled eggs. Most of my compatriots do not like eggs unless they're fried to a burji. Most five-star chefs, at least for breakfasts, can't do this.
Second, this place has a large open-air serving area which is also active during the monsoons. It's covered, but with the right kind of roof to let the sunlight in. How many places in New Bombay have this?
Third, they let me get my pup. We have to sit outside, and some of the waiters are doggo-phobic, but that's ok. They have dog-food bowls and can also serve a dog meal of rice and chicken if you order it.
The waiters are nice, educated about their items, ask the right questions, and are eager to help. The decor is lovely both inside and outdoors, with rattan weave chairs, tasteful and spread-out seating, polished wood, tasteful cutlery, and PLENTY of natural light.
Now the food. We've been there several times, tried out their char-grilled fish, khow suey, breakfast items, croissants, pizza, samosa (veg and chicken), Their tiramisu french toast, with some amazing syrup on top, is a work of genius. The Caprese croissant is excellent. 95% of what I've had are very good to awesome. Strictly avoid their flat croissant -- they flatten the croissant to a point where it becomes a sheet of plywood, you can't bite into it. The chicken and hummus wrap is so-so. Their ham-and-cheese croissant could have served better ham, otherwise it's nice. Portion size is just right -- not huge. And they don't serve buff. Sad.
Their service quality is good when they're not too crowded. Once we went for lunch at about 2PM, the place was 80% full, we waited for 40 mins to be served, we were given just one out of the five dishes we had ordered, we paid and walked out, went somewhere else. Once or twice, when it is less crowded, you need to go walk in and ask a waiter to attend to you. I can live with that, but I felt it must be said.
Till now, there was no serious competition for Pot Pourri in InOrbit mall -- it was/is the king of continental food, plus awesome service. Communion Cafe is now an attractive alternative. Specially, I can take my pup and I can do breakfasts, which are both no-no...
