As I stepped into the vibrant streets of Basant Lok Market in Vasant Vihar, Delhi, I could feel the anticipation bubbling inside me. Today marked my first visit to People of Tomorrow, fondly known as POT 2.0, the country's pioneering all-vegan restro-speakeasy. Having heard rave reviews about its innovative cuisine and sustainable ethos, I couldn't wait to embark on this gastronomic journey.
As I approached the entrance, I was immediately struck by the harmonious blend of modernity and rustic charm. The facade, adorned with natural materials and earthy tones, exuded an inviting warmth. It was evident that every element of the restaurant was thoughtfully curated, from the repurposed canvas fabric to the eco-conscious flooring.
Stepping inside, I was greeted by a wave of tranquility. The interior, designed by the talented Ayushi Malik, was a testament to minimalist elegance. Fluid forms and gentle curves created a sense of fluidity, while the subdued lighting cast a soft glow, enveloping the space in an aura of serenity.
As I made my way to the dining area, I couldn't help but admire the attention to detail. Natural terracotta textures adorned the walls, seamlessly extending to the table lamps, while curved edges added a touch of sophistication. It was evident that POT 2.0 was not just a restaurant but a sanctuary for mindful dining.
Taking a seat at my table, I eagerly perused the menu, brimming with tantalizing vegan delights curated by a team of visionary chefs. From Parsi favorites by Chef Anahita Dhondy to Mexican-inspired dishes by Chef Surabhi Sehgal, the menu promised a culinary adventure like no other.
For starters, I decided to indulge in the Gomae Salad, a symphony of flavors featuring a sesame-based dressing topped with a tofu-cucumber crown. The freshness of the ingredients danced on my palate, setting the stage for the culinary delights to come.
Next up was the Tomatoes of Tomorrow, a zero-waste dish crafted with creamy stracciatella, confit tomatoes, and tomato jerky. Each bite was a revelation, showcasing the versatility of plant-based ingredients in creating indulgent dishes.
As the evening unfolded, I savored every morsel, from the Biang Biang noodles tossed in an intense blend of chili and garlic to the indulgent Melting Fungi Focaccia, adorned with wild mushroom duxelle and truffle oil.
No meal would be complete without dessert, and POT 2.0 certainly delivered with its Caramel Hot Chocolate Fudge, a decadent treat featuring a warm brownie served with Biscoff ice cream and coconut caramel.
Of course, no visit to POT 2.0 would be complete without sampling their signature cocktails. From the refreshing Basil Smash to the classic Tommy's Margarita, each drink was a testament to the creativity and skill of the mixologist.
As I bid farewell to People of Tomorrow, I couldn't help but feel inspired by their commitment to sustainability and culinary innovation. In a world where conscious dining is more important than ever, POT 2.0 stands as a beacon of hope, inviting food enthusiasts from all walks of life to join the movement towards a more compassionate and...
Read moreFinding outstanding examples of high-end vegan cuisine is an absolute mission (in India). But like a shining beacon in the dark, this entirely vegan restaurant miraculously made an appearance from the future and into my heart.
Located in a modern pedestrianised area of Vasant Vihar, you'll find this narrow establishment tucked towards the back after some walking from the main road (Munirka Marg).
Having arrived in the evening the interior was low-lit and minimalist. Ambient light fills the space as broken earthenware acts as decoration along the west wall. A large-lettered slogan about impending change reflects the progressive vision of this restaurant.
Our group was unsure of what to order but we received recommendations from the happy English-speaking staff here. We tried three different dishes. 1) Akuri - an absolutely sublime plate of well spiced scrambled tofu served on a bagel-like bun cut into two; 2) Fatayer - a baked triangular pastry with a mix of 'feta' and spinach inside; 3) Alla norma - a delicate ravioli dish which felt both filling and tasty. Of the three, the akuri stood out as the winner, so much so it was ordered twice.
Through this experience it's abundantly clear the chef has a remarkable skillset and the owner has done well to put together an elite dining dining experience for the ethically-minded diner. I would absolutely come back to try the rest of their menu, this is a slice of vegan heaven in New Delhi. Highly...
Read moreI recently discovered a gem of a restaurant in Vasant Vihar called People of Tomorrow, and it is truly remarkable. As someone who loves vegan and green restaurants, this one stands out. Although the seating is small and slightly uncomfortable, the ambiance is fantastic. The drinks are crafted from all-natural ingredients, with no added sugar, only natural sweeteners. The cocktails and mocktails are among the best I’ve had.
The first-floor bar offers a cozy spot for enjoying great conversations and drinks. The food is entirely vegan, which I particularly appreciate. My favorite dishes—Gomae Salad, Wontons, and Tofu Akuri—were exceptional. Each dish was flavorful and beautifully presented, making the dining experience delightful.
People of Tomorrow is definitely a place I will visit regularly, and I highly recommend you try it too. This restaurant not only serves delicious food but also embodies a commitment to sustainability, making it a perfect choice for...
