I wish I didn't have to give even a star to Modrn Bazaar. My family has been a customer of Modern Bazaar for 20 years and I have seen the quality of staff and service in the past 5 years go to the dogs. It's disappointing and saddens me to see this lovely brand that I used to be so proud of become commercial to the extent of losing loyal customers. They have money to make fancy stores in multiple locations, but sadly the basant lok branch is like a store room, and so patheitcally organized and structured, even after multiple renovations, they have failed miserably in making it convenient and hygenic.
Secondly it's products and produce. The meat is of bad quality, as ameat eaters and pork lovers, we cook it on a daily basis. So we know when the meat is bad, we know when the bread is stale and the veggies are not fresh. They may have variety but the taste and quality is so pathetic. I have never purchased meat here after buying it for a month on a regular basis coz its unclean.
Thirdly, the staff is badly behaved, forever fighting with one another and little do they know of any products that exist in their own store. I asked for Brasso and Comfort at the store, the lady had no idea what i was referring to, and finally wjth an over cobfident attitude told it wasn't available. I found it after searching myself.
The website, is the worst part of this. I used it to place an order this week, this was my first time with mb, as i usually use Big basket. I chose a time of 12.30-2.30pm. Even thought the website is inconvenient, i managed to place an order under 1000rs and waited for the grocery to arrive. They never did. I called the store at 2.30 and they said he hasn't left as my order is below a certain price limit. Hence not a PRIORITY! Later she tells me he's comjng walking since i insisted that i stay across the store, and if i was informed of this drop off retardness, i would have picked it up myself. She tells me he's on his way. 3.30, i call them again to ask where he js, and they put me on hold for the 4th time, to tell me there is a delay and he will come in 1 hour.
I mean, i wish these guys all the best, but with the kind of repetitive issues fights and bad behavior i read of MB, it is...

Read moreIt's a useful shop as has things that an expat might not be able to get elsewhere but the prices are very high. The shop is cramped. Staff are helpful. Today I purchased 200gms of Ginger Peel but when I got home and weighed the contents, the pack only contained 150gms. Ginger Peel, Tutti Fruiti and Cherries are packed in takeaway style boxes that are only held together with sellotape so it might be worth asking a member of staff to check the weight of the contents - I know it's not a lot to be overcharged but very annoying if you are buying a specific quantity to make a cake and then get home to find you have not got enough. Check the quality of the contents too as the items on the shelf have often become discoloured and dry. Ask an assistant for a fresh supply, you might just be lucky to find the shop has some in stock. The telephone number on this website is no longer available and the one on the receipt doesn't...
