Chill Grill Brand comes from the Family of the legendary Chinese Room Restaurant (East Street). The four times in a row award winner of the World Famous Restaurants International USA Award Chinese Room, is one of the oldest Chinese Restaurants in Pune. China Grill started its first restaurant in Wanowrie 10 years back and Riding on the success of the Wanowrie branch, China Grill is back, this time at Viman Nagar! China Grill’s newest outlet in Viman Nagar is a fine dining branch. Owing to its sophisticated décor and interiors, the restaurants gives a quality experience to its customers. The restaurant comes with a beautiful banquet hall on its second level which is ideal for all your special occasions. China grill serves Authentic Chinese food similar to its other branches. In addition to its scrumptious menu, China Grill has also added Authentic Indian cuisine to its food options.

The food we had out here at the Viman Nagar Branch as follows:

We started with some Drinks to cool us down so ordered Blue Lagoon and Paradise Island. They have an elaborated menu for both the Food and for the Drinks to suits every ones palate.

For starters:

Sesame Toast Vegetable: Nice crispy golden brown bread triangles. Yummy in taste. #Musthave.

Corn Curd Mongolian: Very unique dish and one of the signature dish of China Grill. This dish goes through all basic cooking then refrigerating and then frying to get the exact texture without loosing the aroma and taste. It can be enjoyed with Schezwan sauce.

Paneer Tikka: Big square pieces of tender soft Paneer marinated with tikka masala served with Mint chutney. This is one of the Indian Signature dish of the China grill.

Main course:

Vegetables in Hunan sauce: This was nice and served in a huge portion which goes well with Veg Fried Rice. Chunky pieces of vegetables tossed in Hunan Sauce with a perfect thickness of Gravy.

In Roti I tried the Cheese Garlic Naan: Nicely presented and good in taste.

Dessert: Sizzling Brownie with Vanilla Ice-Cream: The only different thing was instead of a scoop, a big slab of Vanilla Ice-cream was placed.

Overall…

It was an wonderful experience of having a quick lunch with great value for money.

There is a reason I am rating China Grill low. I believe the restaurant has much more potential than what I experienced.

Situated in bustling Vimannagar area, it has got good ambience with descent seating’s and a small yet pretty bar. The décor is done well and they try maintaining it too. On a Sunday evening, it was not that crowded and we could hear the Chinese melody been played in the backdrop. I felt the seats to be comfortable enough for a couple of hour diner.

We were craving for the typical “Indo-Chinese” version like typical Manchow soups or Vegetable Manchurian or Hakka Noodles. We were suggested their special dishes by the Manager Lady; but decided to stick to the basics and ordered Veg Manchurian and Chicken Hakka Noodles. The service was quick and presentation was descent. Manchurians were moist and cooked enough, but were too salty. We were super hungry and decided to finish it off rather than replace and this was the biggest mistake of the evening. We informed this to the waiter and also to the Manager Lady for which they apologised, and as per their suggestion we decided to order one more dish for starter, Chicken Crispy Spinach.

But by now, to cut the salty flavour Manchurians, we have had lots of water and now we had started feeling nausea of the food. By that time, the Chicken Crispy Spinach and Chicken Hakka Noodles arrived to the table. The Spinach was really well done and had a crispy texture with a sweet and salty taste (somehow this added even more to the nausea feeling L L). The chicken accompanied the starter was just OK with nothing special. Major disappointment was Chicken Hakka Noodles; it was too dry, very bland (I can understand that Chinese food is bland, but Hakka noodles is the Indian version and tastes far better in many of the other Chinese cuisine serving restaurants!!). We couldn’t finish the food completely, thanks to the salty Manchurian.

To disappoint us even more, when the bill arrived they had included the Manchurian in the bill. I thought of pointing this to the Manager Lady, but just skipped it. I mean, 200 bucks is not a big deal right? Exactly, my point. How “costly” it would have been to the restaurant to not include this in the bill? That’s the exact difference between good restaurants and food outlets like this. But a lesson learned for a life time, if you don’t like something what you have ordered because it is badly prepared, immediately replace it without hesitation; after all you are paying for it.

It was not so pleasant experience for a first visit. I don’t know if I’ll be visiting the place...

To rate a place 5 stars, It has to have amazing food with variety, good ambiance, and great service. You get all these 3 at China Grill's Viman Nagar Outlet. Had a pleasure to be here by Invitation along with my colleague and fellow blogger Mandar Kadam. Ambiance: 4/5 We had been here for lunch and place is full on natural light as it has glassed walls on two sides. The ambiance is simple and pleasing with a neat arrangement of tables.

Staff/Service: 5/5 The staff here is polite, has complete knowledge about the menu they serve and gave a good recommendation. Time taken to serve was well within expectations.

Food:5/5 Mock-tails : 4/5

Right from starters to Dessert, everything was authentic and exceeded the expectations.

Starters: Corn Curd Mongolian : Mashed and cubed baby corn in Chinese preparation, tasted better than a good Paneer Chilly Dish usually available everywhere.

Nizami Chicken: Though I am not fond chicken, I loved this dish of well marinated chicken and roasted to perfection.

Chicken Macrana : Similar chicken preparation but creamier and just melts in your mouth with strong hint of spices.

Corn Tikki : Good one, best it can be.Main Course : For Main Course, we have had

Murg Musallam : A dish mix of mashed and Tandoori chicken goes well with the special naan they serve here.

Five Treasure : Veggies made in Chinese Gravy, which tastes yum with the moon rice.

Mocktails: Out of Hot Guava Punch, Watermelon Basil and Blue Lagoon, I loved Hot Guava Punch, rest were mediocre and could be made better.

Overall a great experience. Nice place for authentic Chinese food, be it a date or office...
