Last night, we had a wonderful dinner experience at Swayam’s Aahar, located in the heart of Viman Nagar, Pune. If you’re looking for authentic Bengali cuisine, this charming eatery brings the real taste of Kolkata to your plate with warmth and flavor.
🏠 Ambience & Location
Tucked away in Viman Nagar, the restaurant has a cozy, no-fuss setup with colorful seating and a homely atmosphere. The banner proudly displays “From the City of Joy – Kolkata,” and the moment you step in, you’re welcomed with the aromas and vibes of a traditional Bengali kitchen. It’s a small space but filled with big flavors and hospitality.
🐟 Starters – Fish Cutlet
We began with their signature fish cutlets, served hot and crisp alongside sliced onions and mustard dip (kasundi). The texture, spice balance, and authentic flavor made it a perfect appetizer. Crunchy on the outside, moist and delicious on the inside—just how a Kolkata-style fish cutlet should be!
🍗 Main Course – Chicken Bengali Thali
The Bengali chicken thali was a complete and soul-satisfying meal. It came with: • Steamed rice • Moong dal • Begun bhaja (fried brinjal) & Begun posto • mix veg in in Bengali Allu copir torkari • Spicy and aromatic chicken curry • mango chutney
Each element was cooked to perfection and tasted just like home. The chicken curry had deep flavors with a comforting homemade touch. It’s a dish that reminds you of mom’s cooking in a traditional Bengali household.
🍚 Special Dish – Kolkata Chicken Biryani
The highlight of the dinner was the Special Kolkata Chicken Biryani—light, aromatic, and perfectly spiced. Served with the classic boiled egg and flavorful potato, it hit every note of an authentic Kolkata-style biryani. Soft chicken pieces, fragrant rice, and a touch of saffron made it rich yet not too heavy.
👨🍳 Service & Hospitality
The staff were courteous, polite, and served food with a smile. The service was quick, and the food was served piping hot. The owner’s passion for Bengali food and culture reflects in the warmth and care they offer to every guest.

Read moreBeing a Bengali I am fully aware of the taste and ingreds used in Bengali cuisine. Since it was my son's engagement and very elite crowd was a part of that I found this catering online. My mistake I didn't check the reviews. I followed up weekly just to ensure they give quality, since it was pujo time. On the day of the event they delivered the snacks 2 hours late and lunch around 2/2.30. the guests kept waiting. The worst was yet to come when the food was brought in steel patilas rather than disposable packings as all good cloud kitchens serve, the owners accepted they were not there when the food had been packed and transported. They were not aware of what their restaurant was serving a new customer !!! The loochi was hard and rubbery, while we asked for kachuri we were given some odd mix of both. The rasgullas were the tin ones bought from some shop apparently. The basanti pullao ..was some regular yellow rice with clumps due to preheating, the chicken kosa was black, chola dal had hardly any coconut like it's usually made, jhuri bhaja was all limp.the worst was mishti doi was served in two small plastic containers , I paid 850 per plate for 25 people and also gave the decoration assignment to them. When I refused to pay full amount the couple threatened I was asked to remove my previous review, which I did. Had they once felt sorry for this I would never want to write this review but such arrogance that I was forced to write this so that no other Bengali family in pune faces this. I don't know about the restaurant haven't eaten there but catering is pathetic. And they have no...
Read more13th February evening I called up the owners for delivering 2 bhog thalis at our place. Since they were not able to deliver via swiggy or Zomato, they told me that they would dispatch it at 1:15 pm via porter , so that it reaches us by 2 pm . It was not possible for me to physically go to the restaurant or any other suggested pick up points as I had meetings till 1:30 pm . What happened was this : My order was not yet packed for dispatch at the above mentioned time. I tried calling them up for updates. Sometimes they picked up stating that there is a huge rush for which it has not yet been packed or dispatched. Finally, when I asked them to cancel the order and refund my money(for the food), they confirmed that the order was damaged.
it has been over a week now and I still haven't received my money back.
This is the first time,we had such a bad experience with swayam aahar. We are not happy with their quality of service, even though their quality of food is very good.
Just to add to the above, I have been refunded the amount after this review was posted. Further, I was asked to remove this review since I've got my money back.
What I am trying to say is this :
Without proper service, nothing could be achieved no matter how good the food is.
If one is unable to offer the service for little or no reason, one should have the courage or decency to say so . One should not commit to it and then make some last moment excuse and end up not delivering it.
We were both very humiliated and hungry at the same time. We intend not to have a repeat of the...
