Went yesterday to have dinner. Waited OVER AN HOUR to be seated. Food was WAY below average for a place that charges soooo much for food. The manager recommended some cauliflower starter, which was nothing but cauliflower sautéed in some spices for ₹425. Zero creativity. Literally something that you can make at home in less than 5 minutes. Unfit to be in a "fine-dine" restaurant menu. Please note that there were three of us, so we were served two-three small to medium sized florettes of cauliflower each. Also, soup was served AFTER the starter. 2-3 florettes of broccoli were boiled in green coloured water in a bowl which was not suitable for soups. I didn't know THAT was soup. The main course was just about average. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a fine dine experience.
There's a lot of movement within the restaurant, of servers/waiters/managers/ushers/captains/hosts. But, nothing gets done. You have to wait for someone to get your attention because there is no salt, or pepper on your table. You have to ASK for water to be replenished. Also, they do not serve finger bowls. Instead you have those wet towels in plastic sachets that you tear with your greasy hands, a little unbecoming in my opinion. Call me old school, but a greasy towel sitting on the table while you have a post dinner banter with your chaps is unsightly, so we left immediately.
We spent approximately 2k for a total of 7 items, the breakup of which is: 1 starter (at least that's what they called it), 2 soups (the aforementioned green broccoli water), 1 very average main paneer dish with literally 3 medium sized pieces in it, and nothing Bengali about which, plus 3 naans.
Please note that this place charges "service tax" , S.GST, and C.GST.
There are far better restaurants out there, that serve not just better food, but still better ambience, at a palatable-(no pun intended) for-the-food price.
Thanks...
Read moreGulmohar Bar & Curryhouse is a charming restaurant, perfect for brunch outings or dinner dates. The ambiance is a blend of cozy and elegant, making it an ideal spot for both casual and special occasions. The decor and atmosphere are thoughtfully designed, creating a warm and inviting environment. The restaurant plays soft, relaxing music that complements the vibe, allowing diners to unwind and enjoy their meals.
One of the highlights of Gulmohar is its service. The staff is attentive, friendly, and ensures that guests are well taken care of throughout their dining experience. The food itself is quite good, offering a variety of options that cater to different tastes. While the menu is solid overall, the dishes are well-prepared and flavorful, making it a reliable choice for a pleasant meal.
However, my main obsession with this place is the beautiful design element near the staircase—mirrors strategically placed to capture the perfect amount of natural light. This not only adds a unique aesthetic charm to the restaurant but also creates a serene and refreshing feel. The natural light combined with the mirrors gives the space a more open, airy atmosphere, enhancing the overall dining experience. It’s the kind of detail that makes you appreciate the thought put into the restaurant’s layout.
Gulmohar Bar & Curryhouse strikes a wonderful balance between great food, excellent service, and a lovely ambiance. It’s a place that you’ll want to return to, whether for a casual brunch or a romantic dinner date. Read moreThis restaurant is a wannabe Michelin star but no where near 😬. The food is unlike any other ordinary restaurant but less portions, I bet you will not be happy with that.🤨 Looking at the menu card costs I had high expectations. But turned out to be no different than an ordinary tea served in a decorated cup.
We had some chicken for starter which had some pungent odor to it, hated that. Midway through our lunch, waiter stops by to ask our kids(4,5 yr olds) to stop running around stating other diners were disturbed (was not polite 😏) turns out the owner was sitting himself on a table doing some math calculations, looked tense🤷♂️, and we were quick to realize where that came from. I’d recommend you guys to put up a disclaimer for that to save fellow diners the misery. Ordered some main course either ways, and the portion of the curry was as expected, very less, god saved us this time it tasted better. But blimey the size of the naan that accompanied it, was not upto the mark. Also the roti should be called a “pappad” instead. This was enough for us to be let down.
Stewardess ‘Gayatri’ was very humble and welcoming.👏
but sorry to see all of them looked ‘over worked’.🥹
Not At All Coming Back! There are far more better places in the vicinity.
Adding more to the story, my friend posted a prior review of this place on Zomato. To which they replied stating the kids were asked to sit after “hours” of complains, and that the restaurant is not a playground. That explains the problem 🤷♂️. kids didn’t run through the place more than 10-15 mins 😬, and how much time does it take for a person to have lunch?...
