A Taste of Authentic South India in Pune - South India Mess
South India Mess in Pune is a delightful culinary haven for those who crave the vibrant and diverse flavors of South Indian cuisine. My recent visit to this eatery left me with a taste of home, far away from the southern states, and I'm excited to share my experience.
Culinary Delight (★★★★★): South India Mess excels in delivering an authentic South Indian dining experience. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by the warm aroma of freshly prepared dosas, idlis, vadas, and a range of delectable curries. The menu is extensive, offering a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I particularly enjoyed the crispy, golden dosas served with an array of chutneys and flavorful sambar. The flavors were true to their southern roots, transporting my taste buds to the backstreets of Chennai or the coastal kitchens of Kerala.
Authenticity (★★★★☆): One of the standout features of South India Mess is its dedication to authenticity. The chefs here have clearly mastered the art of South Indian cooking, and you can taste it in every bite. The use of traditional ingredients and cooking methods gives the dishes an unmistakable genuineness. Whether you're a South Indian longing for a taste of home or someone trying this cuisine for the first time, the authenticity of the food will not disappoint.
Ambiance (★★★☆☆): While the focus here is undoubtedly on the food, the ambiance at South India Mess is more utilitarian than extravagant. It has a no-frills, canteen-like setting, which may not be ideal for a romantic dinner, but it adds to the authenticity. The bustling atmosphere and the aroma of food being prepared in the open kitchen create an atmosphere of bustling South Indian street food stalls.
Service (★★★★☆): The service at South India Mess is prompt and efficient. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and is always ready to provide recommendations or explanations about the dishes. The food arrives quickly and is served with a smile, making your dining experience even more enjoyable.
In summary, South India Mess is a must-visit for South Indian food enthusiasts in Pune. The culinary delights, authenticity, and efficient service make it a top choice for a delicious and satisfying meal. While the ambiance may not be overly fancy, the flavors more than make up for it. Read moreI am foodie, after reading lot of reviews about this place went for lunch. First of all, it should not be called restaurant, its Food Mess. Mess in literally terms. All the reviews about the quality of food either from the paid people or may those who eat regularly. Secondly , its stated open till 3 pm but at the entrance lunch time is till 2:30 pm. Hence, I checked with person in charge about are they serving. We were told Yes. We were served 1 chapati and 2 sabji, When I asked for additional , they said Chapati finished. Then dry sabji too was told finished. Now rice and sambar were there. Served a small portion of rice and I asked for refill, Rice finished. They told wait another 15 minutes. Audacious about these people that they charged us complete price for each meal, that’s pathetic mindset for a day light robbery. I asked the guy I the counter, when you were knowing the food is getting finished, then why you did not tell us. No proper answer & sheepish giving excuse . His main intention is to make money. Why I will not recommend these places to anyone, His CHEAP SELFISH intention, he was aware of the food was not there but still he asked that he could charge us. . • Cleanliness & Hygiene 1/5 • Food Taste 2/5 • Value...
