Aeseoās group of restaurants recently launched their Italian fine dining restaurant, Pista at RA Puram. I was awestruck when I first glanced through their menu! Well designed menu with the perfect dish for all! And then I was attracted by the decor in pictures.
I walked into the place and I was greeted by smiling faces. It was love at first sight when I turned and walked through the beautiful interiors and chose a table near the window (I was allowed to choose my own table, but honestly any table here feels so magical).
Food
I was handed the menu card and I was excited to see a real copy. To start a meal there are no appetisers in the menu but I assure you that you need space to try their main courses, which is their specialty. These guys have mastered the art of playing and serving dishes! Read on to know what we ordered and how they tasted and looked!
Herbed Bread They give you a complimentary herbed bread as soon you take your seats. The bread is toasted and is served with a basil and olive oil pesto. Tastes really really good! (Even simple slices of bread they serve here looks good and tastes equally good) š
Chicken Cutlet The chicken Cutlet is what we ordered since we couldnāt find an appetiser. But I was super impressed by the plating when the dish arrived. You see rice, purple cabbage salad with mayo drizzled on top, the chicken Cutlet with gravy and picked vegetables. The Cutlet is crumb fried, tender and juicy. The gravy is Tangy and goes well with the chicken and rice. The salad is crunchy and sliced finely (youāll just love it). For those who think the dish looks dry, everything on that plate is just the right match. This is super surprising but the pickled vegetables stole the show!! The vegetables were crunchy, did not lose the original taste but at the same time you can also taste the juices it was soaked in (these are not your usual preservatives). I also mixed the water from the pickle with my salad and chicken and rice! I was enjoying every bite until I finished my dish! š
Margarita Pizza with chicken, olives and tomatoes Havenāt heard of the combination? Well we too dint see it on the menu but what they said was since we canāt really customise pizzas and they have only the house specialities on the menu, we can chose to add few toppings to the pizza. Again this is the specialty, anything thatās served looks so good. So I wasnāt surprised by how my pizza looked but by how it tastes! (I found yet another pizza place to hangout at)š
Mocktails
So before I start telling how the mocktails tasted, you should know the secret of their taste. The fruits (kiwi, oranges and pomegranate) are bottled for days with sugar. These are kept for days to soak in its own juices and are served hot or cold. We still donāt know how long the product takes to be served from the time itās bottled (which is still a secret).
Lemon ice tea We all like ice tea and this one tastes exactly how it should. But what you can do is, they give you the sugar syrup separately in a cute little jar and you can add how much ever you want (which is totally a good thing cus thereās always a problem when it comes to these drinks and be constantly keep blaming the restaurants add artificial sweeteners). These guys totally know the crowd š.
The orange juice The orange which was preserved in the jar (we donāt know how long) was mixed with aerated drink and served with the cut sliced and pulp. (How more healthy can my drink get?)
Dessert Weāre sorry guys but this place doesnāt serve desserts. However they were extremely sweet now to disappoint us and gave me their house-made ladyfingers. It was super delicious and they luckily had this because they are testing on the dessert menu with tiramisu. This tasted close to macaroons, not too sweet and melts in your mouth.
I had an amazing experience. This is the best place to hangout with your girl friends (for the girls), have some great food and of course gossip...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTLDR: You should definitely come here!! Majority of the dishes are super expensive, but there are 10-15 options of moderately priced options that can be kept on regular rotation. So this place is a 4.5 due to the pricing and limited options within the price range. I love their side dishes and the ambience. Great for lunch and dinner. Consistently high quality food justifies their price. Make sure to get seated in the first floor , as the service upstairs is slow and they look at you like you're the first human that they've ever seen. The first floor is always packed so make reservations. The thing I like about Aeseo is that it is unapologetically Korean food and their business is doing fantastic. I like authenticity and hate all the restaurants who try to Indianize the original flavors.
There are so many items that are in the 1,500 plus range and you're scared to get them in case it tastes bad. I've had Korean food my whole life in Los Angeles and the Bay area and I've tried many of the dishes on their menu, but the thought of blowing 1,500 plus on a subpar Korean dish doesn't set with me. I haven't been brave enough to venture away from the 650-900 range. They have a completely updated menu on my last visit 2 weeks ago with even more authentic Korean food like boiled pork bone and pork blood soup. In addition they added a variety of salads, and marinated/grilled meats.
I go to Aeseo once a month.
Must Try:
Stonepot bowls: Affordable and you must try. The spicy marinated stonepot bowls are really good and I like the pork more than the duck. I honestly wish they stopped putting so much sugar in the spicy sauces of Korean restaurants. The duck has a gamey taste, but it's not bad. The bulgogi stonepot bowl is on the sweet side.
The soondobu soft tofu soup - It has a nice nutty taste. Make sure they give you the egg and crack it into the soup as soon as the broth comes. The piping hot broth will cook the raw egg instantly. Soondobu is one of my tester items for any Korean restaurant. The simpler the dish, the harder it is to execute well.
Jampong- Piping hot deliciousness. Very popular here and rightly so. They give so much seafood and even 2 crab claws. It is spicy and the broth is so flavorful. I like the texture and thickness of the noodles as well. Absolutely order this!
Spicy pork ssam: It has a more spicy sauce than the pork bowl. It could definitely be spicier and is still a bit on the sweet side. They provide a lovely salad made with onions and scallions. Wrapping the meat with the lettuce and the veggies helps you digest the meat faster. I really wish they don't use these gelatinous and hard to chew pieces of samgyeopsal. It would be fantastic if they could replace this with the cut of pork they use in the pork stone bowl and maintain the same quality. That would be a great deal. They give so much straight meat with the wrap and there are also lots of vegetables mixed into the stone bowl.
Meh:
Jjangmyeon: Very okay. The sauce didn't have enough salt. Wouldn't get again.
Avoid:
Soondaegukbap - I wouldn't get this again. It is very traditional korean fare and not for the light hearted. It has offals as in pig parts like kidney, ear, tongue, and boiled in soup broth. It was okay and the blood sausage had an overly peppery taste as if it was dumped in pepper. I thought the pork casing for the sausage was too rubbery
Soojaebi with seafood- Do not get this. It tastes too plain as it only has broth, handtorn noodles, and vegetables. I got food poisoning after eating the leftovers the next day, as it had seafood in the broth.
Pork shoulder blade grilled meat - Do not for the love of god get this. I was having severe jaw ache after eating such a tough and chewy cut of meat. I do not enjoy grilled meat without marinades as they taste bland and I am not a fan of dipping it in the...
