Let me start by saying, having gone through all the Google reviews and Instagram posts on this - the overwhelmingly positive Google reviews are from local guides, people looking to be local guides and Insta food influencers - and all these groups have their own vested interests for posting things on these mediums.
Coming to this place; here goes an actually honest review.
Decor: It should have been named The Tuscan Ruins, because I am not sure which establishment in Tuscany looks like this other than the Roman ruins. This is not shabby chic, not industrial, not quaint, even inspired by anything out of Italy. It looks like a deserted house in Ukraine, post the Russian invasion of course. Just because it looks different does not mean it looks good- and no not everything unfinished can be called "rustic" just so that prices can be inflated for the novelty of this experience. The furniture was uncomfortable.
Food: This was the worst part of the experience.
Extremely limited, odd menu. There is no other word, but ..just odd. They did not have most of the more substantial items that we asked for- 5 items all in all, which is a lot for such a limited menu. This can be excused if they delivered on the few they did, but this was not to be.
The menu item descriptions are way better than the actual end product.
The bread my husband had was horrible and caused stomach ache. I ordered for two items- Spiced Tofu Bowl and Vegan platter.
The Spiced Tofu was SO incredibly horrible, the hummus was just awkwardly horrible- I cannot adequately describe how intensely bad it was. I went down to give my feedback, choosing to focus on the terrible Tofu. The (apparent) manager tried to understand my complaint and volunteered to replace it- but it was not a problem with the plate, but the whole concept, execution and recipe. A paneer replacement was suggested and after a long to and fro (which is irritating in itself for a hungry guest) he agreed to replace the tofu with some mozarella, tomato and pesto- inspired by the filling of a caprese sandwich- because there was literally nothing else on the menu that could be ordered. I took the chance of this complaint to request for some gluten free bread as I am celiac- which I now noticed they had on display, but had been told at the time of order that they did not have any - and even now during the complaint I was initially denied as this was for general sale. Only after some negotiation, did I manage to get this bread - which was a further irritant as it showed unwillingness to do what it took to be hospitable. The replacement came after 20 minutes, and all the Tofu had JUST BEEN REPLACED WITH 4 TOMATO slices. I once again requested for the cheese replacement. Next, it came back with 2 MOZARELLA CHEESE bits, CUT INTO 4 PIECES!!! It was frankly insulting at this point. If I had not been so hungry, I would have laughed like there might have been hidden cameras and it was a prank.
Vegan Platter- By the time this arrived, the Tofu trouble was happening in the background. It was this dish that convinced me that this place does not truly care about the serving food that is made out of passion. Everything is just a gimmick here, sadly. The carrots are cucumbers were raw and cold- oven roasted brocolli was charred and sooty and cold and sad, the crispy kale looked like it had been nuked...I cannot adequately describe how every little part was just a careless assortment of random things put together.
They could not be bothered to conceptualise food that is actually palatable.
This place exploits the Chennai customer's eternal search for new hang-out places amidst lack of good quality choices and says in so many careless words "We only need to do the barest minimum - customers will...
Read moreThis cafe is the most beautiful piece of art and architecture I have come across in India. I deeply felt the level of detail and care that went into making this place as no detail was left to chance, and it really shows. This cafe is a masterpiece, I would pay by the hour to be given the chance to sit at this place and experience it. Some may say it is Instagram worthy, but I think that is a mild insult to this place as it is so much more. It transports you to a different place far away (Italy) and to a different time(19th century). I came in here hoping to get some work done and enjoy some food but I could not get any work done as I was tripping on every single detail of this place.
The food was really really great too, wonderful ingredients and cooked with love and care. I have travelled the world and eaten at some legendary bakeries and I can say this stands up to any of them.
I read a few reviews before coming here and saw people complain about service and price of the food. The people who made this place have really compromised on practicality and profit to create an experience of being transported to a different place. I hope everyone can take the appreciation of that before making harsh comments about service. Price of food I think is super reasonable in fact maybe even underpriced if one can take an appreciation of the quality of ingredients used, and also the surroundings that you are sitting in while enjoying your plate of food.
This place needs to be preserved and celebrated, and I hope to keep coming back as often as possible and for many many years and hopefully meet the people who made this place one day to personally let them...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened rustic cafe, "The Tuscan Table," in Chennai, and it was truly a delightful experience. The cafe's ambiance exudes a cozy charm with its carefully crafted rustic interiors with the warm wooden decor, vintage accents, and soft, muted lighting.
As a coffee enthusiast, I was thrilled to discover their impressive coffee selection. The baristas at The Tuscan Table are true artisans, and their craft is evident in every cup. The freshly brewed coffee was rich, aromatic, and served with great care. It's a place where you can truly savor your coffee, whether it's an espresso, cappuccino, or any other blend.
The freshly baked almond croissants were a heavenly delight – perfectly flaky on the outside with a generous almond filling that had just the right balance of sweetness. The cinnamon pinwheels were a pleasant surprise, offering a sweet and spicy twist that left my taste buds dancing honestly I could not stop myself from finishing one. They had other varieties of fresh bakes as well like butter croissants etc.
It’s a newly opened place hence weekends might be little crowded and you might have to wait for the table as I witnessed.
Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or simply looking for a artsy spot to enjoy freshly baked pastries, The Tuscan Table is a hidden gem in Chennai that deserves your visit. I would definitely visit again if I happen to...
