Google Maps Review – Andhikaddai Traditional South Indian Food Joint ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ By: Mohanakannan
I walked into Andhikaddai on a whim and left with a full belly, a box of sweets, and a sense that the universe still occasionally smiles upon us mortals. It was their 15th anniversary, though you wouldn’t know it unless you happened to stumble in like I did — tired, hungry, and in search of something warm, familiar, and not trying to reinvent the dosa.
They handed me a complimentary Rava Kesari — golden, soft, just the right amount of ghee. I took a bite and smiled. This was no gimmick. This was a spoonful of pure celebration. And then, as if that wasn’t enough, they gave me a pack of sweets to take home too. Free. No catch. No “follow us on Instagram” nonsense. Just good old-fashioned hospitality, the kind your grandmother would nod approvingly at.
The menu read like a love letter to South Indian tradition — with a few surprises tucked between the lines. Millet dishes sat proudly alongside the classics, like new-age cousins who still wear their veshtis right. The staff were kind. The kind of kind that doesn’t feel rehearsed. One of them even helped me choose my order, like an old friend who knows exactly what you need on a humid afternoon.
I ordered the Small Onion Uthappam. My God. Crisp edges, soft centre, and a generous scatter of shallots that tasted like they were chopped with affection. I’ve eaten Uthappam in places that claim Idli mastery, but this one here — this one whispered sweet nothings to my taste buds and made the chutneys sing backup. The sambar was hearty, the mint chutney fresh and vibrant, and the coconut chutney… let's just say if I could bottle it and carry it in my pocket, I would.
Andhikaddai doesn’t scream for attention. It doesn’t need to. It knows what it’s doing — feeding people real food with real flavour in a space that feels honest. If you like your meals with a side of sincerity, and if your idea of comfort food involves millets, chutney, and a bit of good cheer — this is your place.
I’ll be back. Probably hungry....
Read moreI happened to visit this restaurant in Velachery and I loved the food there . But the concern is that I went to the restaurant at close to 9:45 PM and only a few customers were sitting there as it was closing time ( They informed me about the closing time ), the server who was servicing our table was rushing us to order and the moment we said that’s all he immediately gave us the bill before even we finished our food and also switched off the fan and the AC ( We still had one dosa to finish ) .It was so suffocating and we started sweating . So this clearly proves that you want only the business from the customer but not bothered about the customer. And of course we are paying for what we are eating and not having it for free . The money which we are paying is not only for the food and also for the extra service we use ( Water , EB , servers salary etc ) Won’t the server think twice that if I switch off the fan how will the customer sit and complete his food? , I along with my wife really felt very hurtful of this treatment . When I questioned about this a worker from there said ( It’s closing time and we have to switch off all the fan and ACs) If it’s closing time , why are you allowing the customers to flow in ?. I think I will never visit this restaurant ever again in my life . Serving good food is alone not important , seamless customer service is also equally important . The world is full of options . Thank you with great...

We visited Andhikadai for lunch last Saturday during the Purattasi month. The restaurant is located along a side street, so car parking is quite difficult, though two-wheelers can be parked on the roadside.
As it was a Purattasi Saturday, we expected a crowd — and yes, there was about a 30-minute wait for two people, which was fine. They even have a QR code system to register your name in the queue, which is very convenient.
The dining area is small and simple, with tables placed close together, but the food quality more than makes up for it. We ordered one Regular Meal and one Purattasi Special Meal.
The Regular Meal came with the usual items, while the Purattasi Special Meal was truly a feast — it included: 🍚 Maavizhukku, Coconut Rice, Lemon Rice, Ellu Rice, Tamarind Rice, Veg Biryani, Vathakulambu Mixed Rice, Poriyal, Aviyal, Masiyal, White Rice, Sambar, Rasam, Curd Rice, and Panagam — all UNLIMITED!
Each dish was authentic, flavorful, and cooked with great care and dedication. The taste was simply heavenly — one of the best traditional vegetarian meals we’ve had in a long time.
And the best part — the pricing is very, very reasonable. We paid just under ₹300 for both meals, which is amazing value for the quality and quantity offered.
💯 Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys authentic South Indian meals. Just be patient with the waiting time — it’s...
