They are serving genuine bengali cuisine. Tried quite a few dishes and liked all.
Fish kabiraji - super tasty and very close to how it's * prepared in Kolkata. As it's deep fried and had egg coating this dish is bound to catch lot of oil. So ensure to soak the oil using tissue paper before eating.
Chicken cutlet - not the best ever but good enough. * I felt the quantity of chicken was a bit less and may be a few grams more could have been added.
Mustard sauce - this was served along with the ** above 2 dishes and it was a perfect match. It's a bengali thing to have this sauce with fried items.
Parshe & Pabda fish curry - all the fish dishes were * fresh as promised by the waiter. Both the dishes were delicious. Don't expect a different curry, even though waiter may say that they serve different curry!
Mutton kosha - Huge size 2 pieces and 3 or 4 small * pieces came in a serving. May be the best dish of the day. Mutton was super tender and meat was coming off bone very easily. I'll definitely visit again to try this dish at least.
Basanti pulao - Rice was probably not of * gobindobhog variety but pulao was good enough. Lots of kishmish and cashew nuts, but a bit extra sweet for our pallet.
Service was quick and waiter who was serving us was nice, no misbehaviour.
can be better - table was not cleaned properly. After ** we asked they cleaned it. They serve in plastic glass, mug, and plates, if they could upgrade those then I am sure customers would love that more.
Pricing is good, all of above + a bottle of water & one plate plain rice costed...
Read moreWhen we came to Chennai and few of my colleagues & friends suggested to give it a try, and we did. We Bengalis (read Bangali) are very bad at food habit. We need the exact taste what we are known for. But the results are not even considerable to be taken for a review. We tried Egg Roll and Fish Kobiraji. Being a Bengali we know the taste how it should be. You should be able to judge at very first bite. Look wise - yes, they both looked great but the moment it entered our mouth we understood the mistake we have done. Later during Durga Puja 2018 at DCPCA (Umadri Mahal) we thought everyone does a mistake and deserves a second chance. How foolish act that was for us. We did give it a try. Mutton biriyani - we have taken the parcel from the counter at Umadri Mahal and when the packets were opened .. results attached. The amount of left over oil in the plate can be used to cook a second round of another dish. And BTW this is the first ever Mutton Biriyani where I learned that biriyani can be cooked using oil instead of ghee. Quantity - Sufficient as you won't be able eat the whole (for the taste and oil deposit) Taste - I have never had biriyani and egg roll like this And yes I know how to cook egg roll and biriyani in...
Read moreThis will be heavenly for Indians from East..... Ok specially for Bengalis! Must try- (I have a long list now) - meals... Basically all the meals- veg, chicken, mutton, fish, prawns. My personal fav is Mutton meal (just yummm).... You can also try the famous... "Aloo Wala veg biriyani"... chenna curry, Malai prawn curry and of course fish curry. If you want anything not so heavy you can have Lucchi+Aloo chokha, Lucchi+Chicken kossa, Lucchi+mutton kosha. Best affordable yet healthy meal will be Roti+ anda tadka ( mouth watering egg dal with 3 phulkas in just 100bucks). And these best part is the dessert- Misti doi (sweet curd)...
Awesome isn't it? But before you have any higher expectations let me give you some pointers.
The place is very cozy and not very spic-n-span. Whenever you order mutton curry or a meal - please tell them to put less oil. You can definitely take your friends n family. Staff is welcoming and courteous. This place reminds me of "MAA k hath ka khana". Hope it makes you feel something similar. Now you should go n enjoy...
