Café CakeBee is one of the newest cafes in the city and IT IS BRILLIANT! My colleagues and I have been wanting to go out for lunch and try a new restaurant for a while now and through one of our friends we got to know that a new cafe was being opened very close to our office in Alwarpet. Considering the time we'll be saving in travel, we decided to try out the new cafe.
Thanks to Google Maps, we found the place with ease. As we walked into the cafe, all I could think off were the cafes that Gautham Vasudev Menon has shown in his films - this one will be the perfect place for his next film! OMG its just so pretty, quite, cozy and has so much life in it!😍 They have done a wonderful job with the interiors. Its been 2 days since we went there and I am still feeling that place in me and raving about it! The best part - they grow their own micro greens and certain veggies - they taste just wow!
Coming to the food, I really dont think I can explain that feel with mere words - it was so damn delicious! We had a proper 3 course meal - Mushroom Cappuccino (soup), Classic Caesar salad, Chicken and Fish, a Pepperoni pizza, a white sauce pasta, a BMT pizza and for desserts we had macaroons, brownie, a piece of strawberry cake, 2 eclairs and a chocolate shot each. All of this and we didn't feel heavy with even one of those dishes! They all felt so light and that's why we could keep eating and tasting all of that we tasted. The secret behind the lightness of the food (as quoted by their manager) "we use only truffle oil in all our dishes".
For a soup-hating bunch like us, we were all super surprised as to how that mushroom soup tasted! And we kept thanking the manager for insisting us that we try that soup. It was so fresh and light and swept away all our thoughts that 'soup just occupies space in the tummy and reduces the space you have for main course & desserts' 😝
Their macaroons - ❤! So light, perfect amount of sweet and crunchiness. And I can keep going on about the brownie and the chocolate shots for even like a month I think! And the eclairs!! Having been a curious kid for almost a year to taste a proper eclair (after being influenced by Masterchef Australia ofcourse :P) the eclair here made my wish come true and definitely did satisfy my craving to have a good eclair in Chennai.
I can keep going on and on about this newbee in town - Cafe Cakebee. We are super thankful that you have come to Chennai and are 5 mins away from our office!! 😁😍 Am so glad that we experimented and went to...
Read moreCafe CakeBee had good reviews and ratings. We were in the mood for something new. Calls to both listed numbers went unanswered. But since it wasn't a long drive, we thought we'd take the chance.
Be warned that the road to CakeBee is no cakewalk. It branches off from an intersection on a crowded street where one has barely room to walk, leave alone drive. Everything from godowns to unloading trucks to street hawkers and Two wheelers take every inch of available space.
One wonders how the business owners thought that customers would actually make their way to the place. About a 100 meters from the crowded intersection, the traffic thins abruptly, giving way to a middle class neighborhood. It seemed passable, so we persisted.
The waiters are well-meaning but fairly clueless. They look like they're still learning on the job. The menu is a 4 page sheet of options and we dive in.
Ordering a falafel roll and spicy vegetables with burnt garlic rice. The portions are small but the presentation and the taste are a surprise. The burnt garlic flavour comes through and the sauce holds it all together. The falafel roll topped with the coleslaw and hummus as options is decent
The layout and the decor are strictly utilitarian. For some reason, the door handles are like piping which angles off at the end.
Chairs and tables look like they've passed through generations of use. There's a general air of 'making do' on the decor but it probably does not matter to the young people who stream in and out continuously.
For dessert, we went with Heavenly Hazelnuts. It had a can opener for the lid, which is possibly more hygienic that open preparations behind the showroom shelves.
They are open for breakfast as well and given the first experience, we'll probably brave that because the end result is quite satisfying.
Valet parking is available but suggest you take a cab or a small car. As it is, the traffic is dense, disorderly and democratic. No one has right of way and...
Read moreDont be fooled by the positive reviews. I went there this morning, 23-july-2023 seeing all the positive reviews. I expected to have a wonderful breakfast. I reached there at 8:40am with all hopes high. The place was ok but noticed the shabby uniform of the servers. Only 3 other tables were occupied so expected quick service. After 10 minutes the server appologised and gave us the menus. We made the order quickly and we waited. 5 minutes later the cutlery and coffees came. We ordered the English breakfast. after 45 minutes we were restless. Finally 2 or the 4 breakfasts came. At 9:45 am more than one hour later I called the server and cancelled the other 2 breakfasts. We could not stand it any further. The 2 english breakfasts that came were cold. The single bread slice was not toasted and of different types on each breakfast. When we went to pay the server apologized. But waiting more than 1 hour and still not getting severed is too much. I could have got it ready in my house in 30 minutes. The spread is not worth Rs.450. After I spoke to the cashier he said the food cost is complementary. That does not change my view and will not visit again. Finally had to go to a nearby veg restaurant to...
