It was an unplanned visit to this outlet of Junior Kuppanna for lunch. I reached here at 3 but the place was almost packed even though it was a weekday. This is my first visit to Junior Kuppanna as I have been hearing about this restaurant for a while so finally, I decided to check out this restaurant even though it was unplanned. The restaurant is located on the ground floor of Metro Inn hotel.
╫ Menu:
Menu accentuates mainly on Tamil cuisine. I couldn't go through their menu cards. Chicken biriyani is available in (1) Half for 110 (2) Full for 190. Apart from their normal biriyani, I have seen a special type of Natti style biriyani but I don't remember the exact name. They have also incorporated a handful of dishes under Mutton, Chicken section.
╫ Ambiance:
The place was almost packed and it was bit clamorous with people moving around, falling of utensils in the kitchen and the vehicles plying outside. The placed looked fine for dining and its not that much immaculate. It looked like an ordinary restaurant.
╫ Service:
The service was good. The staff was attentive and brought the dishes to my table without much delay. A lady staff will be there once you reach the entrance. She will help you to grab a table based on the no: of people who are with you.
╫ Food :
I ordered their Chicken biriyani and chicken lollypop. Their chicken biriyani is a typical Tamil Nadu style biriyani. The chicken pieces were all well cooked and tendered. The biriyani is available in both half and full. The rate for the half is 110 whereas for the full is 190.i opted for full chicken biriyani and it contained 2 small-medium pieces of chicken. The biriyani looked yellow in color and it was embellished with cashew nuts as well. I liked the taste. It wasn't spicy. It will completely depend on your liking towards Tamil Nadu cuisine, after all, it's one's personal choice. The biriyani was served on a plantain leaf as they don't serve the dishes on a plate.
But the quantity of the biriyani was highly disappointing. The quantity of the biriyani rice was very less and it is not at all worth for 190. The rate of biriyani is really exorbitant. The accompaniments served along with the biriyani were (1) raita (2) a bowl of gravy and (3) a bowl boiled egg curry. The rate for chicken lollypop was 210 and one plate contained 5-6 small pieces of chicken. The taste was good but the quantity of the chicken pieces was not worth that amount.
Altogether the total bill came around was RS 420. But I felt it was not worth the amount I paid as it couldn't satisfy my hunger ..
The biriyani was served in a small rectangle steel plate and the quantity was less. They are even providing half biriyani for Rs 110 and now I can imagine how the quantity is going to be.
Coming to the taste wise it was fine to me and I liked it.
╫ Payment:
Card payment is also accepted I guess.
Overall it's a good option in Coimbatore for those who wish to indulge in Tamil Nadu...
Read moreI'm a regular visitor of Junior Kuppanna at Nava India, Thudiyalur, and Ram Nagar – always been a fan of their Mutton Biryani and Non-Veg Meals. However, my recent experience at the Townhall branch was extremely disappointing and nowhere near the standard the brand is known for.
🍛 Mutton Biryani – 1/5 Tasted completely different from other branches. It lacked flavor and depth – felt more like tomato rice than biryani. Definitely not the signature taste I’ve come to love.
🍽️ Non-Veg Meals – 1/5 Waited 30 minutes just for rice after the poriyals were served. Poriyals were undercooked and tasted awful. The rice was overcooked and soggy. Curd was sour and not fresh. Despite paying for a full non-veg meal, we ended up eating rasam rice which was just about okay. Totally not worth it – my whole family was upset.
🍗 Chilly Chicken and Lollipop– 1/5 Undercooked, hard and lacked flavor. The texture made it unsafe for kids – definitely not cooked properly.
🍗 Chinthamani Chicken – 1/5 Extremely low quantity (definitely less than 100gms), yet priced almost equivalent to 1kg of raw chicken. Unjustifiably overpriced.
💧 Water Tumblers – 0/5 Tumblers had a bad smell, clearly not cleaned or sanitized properly. Unhygienic.
👩💼 Reception/Staff Behavior – 0/5 The female receptionist was completely dismissive. When we raised our concerns and even asked if there had been a change in the cook, she showed no courtesy, no interest in addressing the issue, and just brushed us off without any proper response.
⚠️ Strictly avoid if you're taking kids – especially with undercooked chicken being served. It's not safe, and the staff doesn't seem to care.
📝 Final Thoughts: Junior Kuppanna is a brand I admire, but this Townhall branch is ruining your name. Just reading the other reviews, it's clear this isn’t a one-off issue – it’s been happening for a long time and nothing has been done to fix it.
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️Highly not recommended unless you want a spoiled outing and a disappointed family.

Read moreYesterday I went to have lunch at 2pm & ordered chicken biryani.
After 5 minutes, the waiter informed that they ran out of chicken biryani. When I asked what all was available, the waiter spoke as if he was't sure. Then I then ordered paratha & boneless chicken fry.
After 5 minutes, the waiter informed they ran out of boneless chicken & asked if regular fry was ok for me. I said that's ok.
After 10 minutes, another waiter came & put a chicken curry on my table & left. So I called my first waiter & asked why I had been served a curry instead of fry. Then the waiter started selling the curry as fry. He kept saying that it was oil-less fry & it is fried in masala water. I'm not sure if he was trying to be clever or retarted.
I asked if there are any chicken items which were deep fried in oil. He said chicken 65 was available.
Finally after a total of 30 minutes, I was served what I asked for.
For the price paid at ₹40 per paratha of 5" diameter & ₹200 for a plate of chicken 65, I sure...
