McRennett is one of the oldest bakeries in Kodambakkam. It is a multichain business having several branches in Chennai. This old bakery is the trademark for Chennaitte. In kodambakkam, this bakery is located opposite to meenaakshi college. This bakery is famous for walnut cake, and plum cake. During the festival season, they sell a large number of these cakes. Other than cakes they sell a different variety of buns, chocolates, puffs, rusk, chips, and cool drinks. McRennett in kodambakkam is not quite big when compare to other branches but has a small dine-in place. As this bakery is located inside the complex it has a parking area for bikes and cars. This arcot main road McRennett has a lot of competition from Manna and Nandhiniee Sweets. But walnut cake, plum cake, and other traditional cakes are USP for this bakery.

Was one of the most famous places for a cake at a point. It used to be standard protocol to wait for my father on my birthday to go to McRennett for a cake and gobble it up together as a family. With a lot of choice now, the number of people still relying only this joint has reduced but the crowds can still be seen during office hours and school hours. Ideal for a quick bite like puffs and pastries. The service is also pretty nice and once while buying cake for my father they were kind enough to secretly put a few extra words I requested despite it being quite the tiny cake. I recently went to McRennett to place an order for brownies, which I’ve been doing every year during the season. But this time, I had a disappointing experience. One of the female sales staff was very rude to me.

Even though another staff member was ready to assist, this lady kept refusing to take my order and repeatedly said, ‘We don’t take orders.’ Her tone was harsh and unprofessional, which is not what I expect from McRennett.
