It is a series of restaurants which specializes in making and selling idlis. It is their dominant sale. Different varieties and flavours of idlis are served at their restaurants hence the name Idli shop. They also serve few varieties of dosas. The taste is good but the rate for different menu items are high. So it is preferred to visit this place if you are coming with high budget. When I visited this hotel the cost of each idli was Rs.17. So you can calculate for yourself how much would a plate of idlis would cost. Rest-wise it is a good place to visit if you are an idli person and want to try out all the different varieties of idli you can get outside. One of my favorite dine-in place for vegetarian before 10years. I used to have my lunch often in this Tnagar Branch. Today when I visit after a decade, it was very sad to get such a bad experience. Food quality & quantity, service and ambience is totally disappointing. Staff behavior is very rude. When I ask for some extra side-dish with lunch, they ask to pay. But the quantity given first also very less. When I ask about this, the manager ask me to check in SARAVANA BHAVAN. If you are quoting other hotels, then please check both Quality & Quantity of them too. Atleast have Special meals category with better treatment....

I think most of the murugan idli Shop chain never been transparent with menu. I requested service Anna at t nagar branch to serve plain podi uthappam however he went and placed order for onion uthappam. Like every murugan idli Shop service Anna came with tray to sell snack even there I asked him again to place order for podi uthappam then he went and placed the order. All this while he never said podi uthappam comes with gheen when he served I did observe as ghee asked him even there he said as oil. I am not sure about the management tactics behind the murugan idli Shop but I made my mind to discontinue my patron...
