Serving authentic 'mess' style food at this traditional outlet for the past 44 years. Entrance is through a traditional doorway which leads to the older seating zone followed by newer Air conditioned and open seating zones further Inside. Some of the popular items like Mutton Biryani runs out fast so early lunch is recommended if you're seeking that.

Food is served meal style with unlimited white rice and a veggie gravy. All other meat specific items are presented by the servers in a large plate for choice. Billing is done based on the portions and items chosen. A slightly unique concept. However, since the servers are going around multiple tables with these serving portions, you may end up eating cold food. That was the only, but most annoying problem here. Food would have likely been tastier if served piping hot. Food getting cold faster in an air conditioned seating zone is also a factor.

Toilets are filthy and areas around it are utterly unhygienic. Similar for hand wash areas. Lots of construction is ongoing for either expansion or upgrades. We went to palaniappa mess for lunch today. They have a good name in pudukottai and came highly recommended, so we went looking for the place. They have car parking a few meters away. It is not manned. So people park whichever way they want and getting your car out could be a hassle. Now coming to the food, they have decent variety. You can ask for either biriyani or meals. And you can pick sides.. they bring a big plate with all the different sides - fish, mutton, chicken, kadai etc.. We ordered mutton sukka, mutton thala Kari, prawn masala. They all tasted the same. I was very disappointed with the food. Fish fry was good. We had a late lunch the other day in another mess near the pudukottai bus stand. Food was much better and so was the service. In palaniappa, the guy who served us the rice and sides behaved as if he was giving us charity. Very few among the staff were smiling.
