Udipi Guest Hotel — Restaurant in Tamil Nadu

I just went before few days back to this hotel to buy some snacks since they have bajji/bonda of all sorts. Bought a set of bonda which contains 2 pieces. I thought it could be around 30, 35 Rs. But the bill was 63 rs for two pieces of bonda. That bonda if bought around in tea shop or even in snacks shop it hardly costs us 7 to 8 rupees given the quality, size and taste. There is nothing special in that bonda and tastes below when compared to roadside snack shops. I coudn't digest the fact that how can they charge like this for a bonda and imagine we have to spend our fortune to eat a meal in this hotel. The most shocking thing is that this hotel is located near to a hospital and imagine if a poor/middle class family went inside unaware of the prices, think of their situation. pro tip: Don't go to a restaurant that has pure vegetarian in its name, its a way to fool people to charge...

Gives the feel of a legendary South Indian restaurant, but not as famous as the WELCOME hotel or Ratna cafe…

Vadacurry is served like sambar and chutney in the mornings, but rightfully it’s over before 9am 😄

Would suggest this place for any meal of the day for the following reasons -

1 Menu goes on to include North Indian items for lunch and even chaat items for dinner (unlikely for an old South Indian place )

2 Gives the vibe of the old (less fancy) restaurants

3 There’s a small space for about 20 people to sit in an air conditioned room (needed for the chennai weather)

4 Comforting staffs 5 Pocket friendly menu for a happy meal..

Ideal for breakfast after walks or a game of shuttle or just a lazy morning, or for lunch with family or alone (maybe friends if fancy ambience is not the expectation) and for supper/dinner with anyone (but least likely to be ideal...

I had an awful dining experience at the guest hotel today, and I strongly advise against eating there. The servers and supporting staff were disrespectful, especially towards elderly customers. During our visit at 9:45 pm, the servers repeatedly asked if we wanted more food, pressuring us to order excess food for our kids and elderly family members. As a result, a lot of food went to waste. When we asked to take the leftover food home to distribute to the needy, the hotel management was uncooperative and even murmured about our request. It was a very disappointing experience, and I never expected this kind of behavior from the hotel's employees, despite its long-standing presence. I suggest that people think twice before dining at this hotel, and that the hotel should mention their closing time in advance to avoid inconvenience...
