Β Β Β Read moreWoodland Retreat is one of the oldest hotel in the area serving good South Indian food as well as few Punjabi favourites all in pure veg.
The place is mid sized hotel and reasonably full even on a weekday afternoon which shows itβs popularity amongst the locals n itβs regulars.
Almost every South Indian item is worth trying like:
Rasam Vada: the rasam is basically a tamarind based savoury soupy curry with spices and may or may not contain lentils unlike sambhar. The rasam was pure authentic n lip smacking, the vadaβs were well made and overall it was good solid dish !
Utthappam sandwich: this has mixed tawa cooked veggies sandwiched between two crisp layers of normal utthappam . Itβs different from the usual dishes and has good flavours n texture.
The coconut chutney n sambhar served with it were just right n very fresh.
Poori Bhaji: this is an age old classic and done nicely here. The potato bhaji is very savoury n well cooked, the pooriβs are well fried but not too oily and the quantity is more than enough for a person.
Paneer Tikka Masala: this is pretty ok, soft cottage cheese cubes well marinated n cooked in the tikka gravy.
Chaas: the masala buttermilk is just perfectly done and delicious.
Pineapple Sheera: very few places serve this sweet delicacy. Rich semolina cooked in pure ghee with fresh pineapple pulp and cashews. The quality n quantity is very good and itβs a delish dessert or a stand alone dish.
The ambiance n decor is very basic but clean, service is quick and the place is always buzzing with...

So popular is this restaurant, that it is always fully occupied during the lunch time and also booked for small get-togethers.
In case you are in a snacking mood, try the Rasam Wada, Pesarattu Dosa, Rayal Seema Uttappa and Ullipai Dosa.
In the mood for a sumptuous proper lunch, try the Paneer Tikka and Veg Kolhapuri. If you want to indulge in South Indian Main course, try the Rice variants like Puliyogare [tangy & mild spicy rice], Lemon Rice [Sour / Tangy in taste, with a tempering of groundnuts and curry leaves], Bissi Belle Bhat [Spicy Rice & Dal with some veggies], Bhakla Bhat [Curd Rice with a topping of Pomegrantes, Fried Cashew Nuts & Raisins], Curd Rice [Plain with tempering], Palak Khichdi.
All Rice dishes are served with Appalam [Fried Papad made out of Rice]. We liked it so much that we consumed 16 Appalam among 5 persons apart the ones served with the Rice dishes.
Please try the Gulab Jamun and Pineapple Sheera [both served hot] after the Main Course.
It is a little on the expensive side vis-Γ -vis the Price but justified for...
