Hotel Sindhudurg Malvani Mejwan
My wife (a hardcore Parsi foodie) and self have been visiting this restaurant for 2 decades (since 2002). During these times, we have really enjoyed the food both for taste and freshness and the restaurant had always lived up to it's name under the leadership of Dhuri with him and his loyal staff catering to their customers. Yesterday, anticipating the same, we visited, quite early in the evening and was surprised to see a done-up interior. We ordered 2 fish (pomfret) thali. Quite surprisingly the food was served immediately but with the lackluster of freshness and taste. The "wades" were refried thereby looking dark brown instead of light brown and some were even burnt! We requested the waiter to get fresh fried ones for which he reverted saying Monday, Tuesday, Thursday fresh food is not made and he refused to replace. We then requested for rice. The rice was cold and hard. The pomfret was soaked in oil and cold. Overall the food was a disgrace to the name. So we asked about Mr. Dhuri, for which the waiter said he has passed away few years back. On our way down we met with the counter person from whom we learnt that there is a new Management who has taken over to run the restaurant. We only advised that if they have to run the restaurant successfully they have to cater to customers with politeness and accepting and acknowledging the areas flagged for improvement, failing which they will have to close shop! Cash counter will only survive when kitchen caters to palatable and tasty food served on the table with...
Read moreHotel Sindhudurg was the best malwani restaurant we have ever visited in Thane/Mumbai.
We know there are lots of players in the market but the price range of this restaurant & the taste which they have is just unmatched.
We have been to almost all the big players because we just love authentic malwani food & that's the reason why we praising this restaurant so much.
The ambiance is divided into many parts as AC & NON AC is available but to further classified they also have a baithak room for a big group where you can literally chill & eat.
Also, they have a dining area that is not functional during monsoon. This place is super famous in the area so on weekend you make sure to visit a bit early to avoid that long waiting.
We forgot to add a soulkadi shot in the reel because we were too busy drinking it & didn't remember to take a shot of it. Let us know what you think of this place if you have ever visited it. Also, do say hi to the manager from our side as well because currently, we are the frequent visiter...
Read moreSurviving in the past glory This place was one of the best in Thane for Malvani food 10 years back. Since then many new and better joints have come. I use to eat at this place quite often those days, but this place has gone out of my favourites list.
This place use to be so crowded and we use to wait 15-30 mins for a table. Now this place has just the first floor, rest demolished. The AC room stays the same.
The cost of the food has gone up considerably. I use to love the bombil fry at Rs. 30 years back and then it was Rs. 60 a year back and now its Rs. 90 and Rs. 120/-
This place needs urgent renovation. Ambience needs to be improved, food and service need to improve in quality and quantity.
All said when you are here, do try the Fish fries..Bombil, Pomfret, chicken biryani and finish it off it the amazing solkadi (I always asked for...
