I was in Gangtok on the 16th and 17th of May this year and my daughter and I were at MG Road within an hour of arriving the first evening. We decided to eat at Baker's Cafe and had a pleasant experience owing the the ambience and some flavourful food. My wife joined us in Gangtok the next day and my daughter insisted we go back to Baker's Cafe for dinner. We entered the cafe at 7:30 pm and promptly found a table. We knew what we wanted and placed our orders by 7:35 pm when our server told us that this would be the last order since they will be closing soon. We were perfectly fine with that. The dished began to arrive by ten minutes to eight with the last one arriving a few minutes before eight. By then the last customers had begun to leave. As we started eating, we were being stared at by two of their staff members as they kept looking at the time. A moment later one of the servers came and told us that they are closing and expected us to leave. So, we were expected to finish our food in under 5 minutes of having received it. They had decided to take our order and serve us and we did not insist that they do so when we walked into the cafe. If they told us they could not serve us because they were closing soon we would have understood and found food elsewhere. We were very upset by their constant staring and behaviour and asked them to pack our food for us, which too was done without any serviettes or take away cutlery. I figured they would allow us at least fifteen minutes to eat our food but they were more than happy to send us on our way. The customer service is arguably the worst I have experienced. Whenever I visit Gangtok, Baker’s Café is my must-visit place. I just love its ambiance. On a clear day, the view of Mount Kanchenjungha from its glass window is simply breathtaking. The quality of the food is just awesome – the breakfast platter is amazing, and their muffins and white coconut pastry  are a must-try!
